Hi ladies! I borrowed the Virginia Housewife book from the library. It is a cookbook, I suppose, if one can call it that. It is so fascinating to me! Mary Randolph, through trial and error, put recipes to paper and had it published in the early 19th century.
I am eager to see if I can make these recipes work....
Which brings me to...What is a "gill of yeast"? and what does it mean to "wash the salt from the butter"? Couldn't I just use unsalted??? lol!? I am sure I will find more, but I am curious to see if anyone has answers to these questions. :D
