I'm new to the connection. I'm an RN from New Jersey. I love reading, gardening, nature, all animals, knitting, sewing, holistic health care and yoga. I haven't been as excited over a magazine since "mothering" magazine started in the early 80's! I have 3 children, Kevin 23, Lindsey 19 and Scott 17. I've been divorced for 14 years. We live a quiet simple life in a small suburb of NYC. I'm happy to meet everyone and to be one of the farmgirls.

Hi Debbie and all of the other farmgals!
I am also new to the boards although I have read the last two MaryJane magazines and frequent this site several times a week. I am a recent newlywed and a veterinary technician (animal nurse :) My husband is a farmer and we plan to go back to my parents farm in Montana in three years to help as my dad will be retiring. I love anything that has to do with outdoors, animals, crafts, cooking, sewing, spending time with my family and friends, and my new hobby of knitting.

Hi Jamie- Thank you so much for the response. What type of farming do you do? And what's it like in Montana? Ive never been there. I love the country but I also love living so close to NYC. It is a wonderful city. I am also new to knitting, still learning. Right now I'm knitting a baby blanket for my girlfried's first baby. It's just such a relaxing hobby with such saisfying results. I've made scarves for the whole family. I'd like to tackle a sweater but I still have a lot to learn!! Well I'm off to work. I work the 3-11 shift on a med-surg floor at a nearby medical ctr. I love being a nurse. Thanks again for writing back!,Debbie

My husband and I right now are living in Wisconsin until we move back to Montana to take over my family's farm in three years. Seems like an eternity. My dad has 8000 acres and he farms wheat, oats, barley, some lentils. Unfortunately, my dad uses conventional ways of farming but my husband and I are going to try to work towards growing organic. I love it in Montana. You'll have to take a trip west and visit my wonderful state. I am probably a little biased but I think our community is full of friendly wonderful people that are always willing to lend a hand. I understand what you're saying about living near a large city like NYC. I've lived for amounts of time in Phoenix and Denver. You have access to cultural things that aren't found in smaller areas. I guess it is what you're used to and what your needs are. My needs are very simple and I love the peace and quiet. At our farm, you can go outside and hear nothing but the breeze and the birds chirping. Not a car for miles. The best is at night, the sky is full of stars which I can't appreciate now living in the city and the northern lights are absolutely breathtaking. I LOVE living in the country. Sure, there are great things about a city but it just makes our trips to town that much more special since it's not an everyday thing.
That's great to hear you love your job so much. Nursing is a hard and sometimes underappreciated field.

Welcome to both Jamie and Debbie. So glad to have you here. I can't wait to read as you compare and contrast your homes and living in the country/city. I'm Paula and live just outside of Tulsa (OK) on an acre with my husband, two children, and one (for now) dog. We enjoy landscaping the new yard, gardening, and dog training/performance sports. I'm a massage therapist (humans and canines). At present I work for a salon "in town," but hope to build a private practice soon so I can have more flexibility AND more income.
School was out yesterday for my kids (8 and 11), and I've been driving ~1,000 miles/week the past few months since we moved so they could finish at the same school. So today is set aside for laundry, more unpacking, and cleaning my filthy house, so I guess I'd best get back to it.

Hi there Jamie & Debbie welcome to the group! I really learned to appreciate nurses the hard way last year when my appendix ruptured and I was in the hospital for 8 days. They took very good care of me. I was obsessing the whole time because we were having my daughter's wedding (at our home of course) and I was hemming bridesmaid's dresses in bed, thankfully I had finished the bridal gown already.
I love Mothering magazine too! I am reading it again now that my daughter is a mom. It was very influencial to me in my parenting and life style choices. I especially liked the old issues which included some cooking, sewing, & herb articles.
BTW I see that some of us are knitters. I am an absolutely obsessive knitter, that's what led me to spinning and then weaving. I will start a knitting topic.
