I didn't see this posted elsewhere yet...
Instead or comet or another chemical laced, harsh scrub, try using plain old Baking Soda to scrub your toilet's sinks, tubs and more. It works on all but the VERY toughest stains, and it leaves such a fresh scent. For a neat little addional scent you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to it as well.
I buy it in bulk at a Costco type of place, then dump the contents into a Tuperware storage container with a flip lid. Its the shape of a cereal box sortof, and very handy to use. I add about 20 drops of lavender or other essential oil to about half a gallon of baking soda. It lasts forever!
You can also sprinkle the baking soda onto carpets and upholstery and leave sit for about ten minutes, then vacumn to freshen your carpets.
And, you can dump baking soda ( I like to add lemon or even fresh lemon balm herb) into the disposer to clean and get rid of smells.

Its cheap and effective and not toxic...yay!

I impressed my husband by "scrubbing" down the stove top with a paste of baking soda and water. He thought it was terrific!! It's the little things that make you smile... ; )

Thanks Jacqueline for the baking soda tip. I actually knew about it and tried it years ago but somehow forgot about it. I used it the other day on the carpets, in the bathroom and in the fridge. I have a few more I'll post on the site in new topic. Thanks Michele

Hey Farmgirls I am always interested in non-toxic cleaning tips but do have a question. Does anyone know what effect baking soda will have on a septic tank. As a newbie to the country and septic tanks, I am trying to be very carefull. I use vinegar when cleaning, but someone also told me recently that vinegar should not go into a septic tank either.
