Hello crafters!
Catherine tempted me over here with a sock swap What a great forum!
Here's my quick intro, as I can hear my boys are probably ready to get into trouble any minute!
Anyway, I'm a mother of two boys: 3.5 years and 9 months. I'm a part time music teacher. I'm always creating something! Knitting is my passion, spinning is a close second, and I just bought a sewing machine this summer and have discovered that fabric is just as addicting as yarn. Oh, and crochet is on the list too, I just happen to stink at it (but I'll learn!) I try to make whatever I can myself.
And with that brief hello, I hear trouble in the dining room!

As a mother of boys I totally understand the trouble..I hope it wasn't bad..haha
You will love it here! Alot of us are also spinners and knitters. I crochet too, although I don't do it often. I just like the look and feel of knitted things better. And you are right...fabric is very addictive...I have that addiction BAD!!!

Hi knittymama! I also have a 3.5 year old bot as well as an 8 and a 2 year old daughters.
The mention of spinning made me also think of looms for some reason. Does anyone weave on a loom, the big ones? I'd love to learn that someday. For a christmas gift my husband signed me up for a class to learn how to make a felted wall hanging. I'm excited to learn some different felting techniques other than the knitting and maybe combine them. Thanks to everyone for the great tips I've gotten so far! |

Hello knittymama. I am a mother to 2 boys that are ages of 19 and 17 and a step mother to one son who is 23. Believe I have some stories then and now. I have tried knitting but i prefer sewing, tatting, and crochet. I use to have a knitting machine. Loved and that was the way to go. Everyone here is super nice and has a lot of knowledge and I know you will always walk away with wonderful advice.

Hello knittymama - Welcome to the group. I think you will find this to be a most interesting, most friendly, most supportive group of farmgirls you will ever meet! I think you will also find that any kind of fiber-related activity can be very addictive. Trust me, I know.
Megan - I am a weaver, currently down to only three looms. Lack of space has forced me to consolidate. I enjoy making items for the home, table linens, as well as wearables. This year I want to work on creating fabric, perhaps to felt and then make a jacket or vest. Our guild is doing a dishtowel exchange, so I will most likely participate in that also.
Will your felted wallhanging be made from a knitted project or from the unspun fiber? I've done both, and both are fun. If you do the felting "by hand" rather than in the washing machine, be prepared for a workout! It is a physical activity, but the results are worth it!

I believe it is goin got be from unspun fiber. I've made some knitted/felted bags before and I'd really like to learn some other ways to work with wool. I'd like to make some toys for my kids and even some sculpture type pieces. I work in plaster (I'm a lifecaster and make casts of pregnant bellies, children's hands, feet, bums, things like that and now I want to see what I can do with wool!
As for weaving, I became interested after reading a book by Susan Sargent. She has several books about the use of color in interior decorating. www.susansargent.com She got her start though as a fiber artist working in some small Scandinavian village on a family's farm raising sheep, dying wool, and making rugs on a loom. I'd love to learn someday, but I'm not sure where to start/look. My daughter got a small lap loom for christmas, so maybe I'll just start there!

Megan, have you met Elaine Boaz in Granville yet? I used to live near Somerset, and was in an informal spinning guild which met at her home.
It was a great group, and I miss getting together with them. They taught me lots of things. I love my new guild here in the Caldwell area, tho'.
There is a lady named Nancy who lives in Newark who is a great weaver and teacher.

Thanks Lisa! I've only been here about a year and have not met too many people yet. Maybe I should ask at the local yarn shop about Elaine or Nancy. Do you by any chance remember Nancy's last name? Thanks for the leads!
