Does anyone earn ANYthing on their blog? I really want to take this step. Currently, I blog on a free wordpress site. I know a host is going to be necessary if I want to earn anything...I will likely go with Bluehost. Beyond that I am CLUELESS! Anyone help me??

Hello friends! I am seriously considering starting a blog that will earn a bit of income (even though I know basically nothing about it...lol!). I think it would be awesome to add a couple of hundred dollars to our monthly income! Anyone earn money with their blog? I'd love some tips/ starting points! Also, because it will encompass so much more than just our farm (as my current blog, which should really be more geared toward only the farm) I have been considering a new name. What do you think of Pioneer Wild? Maybe Wild Pioneer? I am sure I have more ideas, but I am stuck on this one! I think I like Pioneer Wild better, even though the other way might make more sense? https://derbauernhofsite.wordpress.com

Alicia, I have been blogging for quite a few years on blogger. I was making about $50 per month on ad clicks, but for some reason they blocked me from using it. (No, I didn't click my own ads) I have really been thinking of buying my own website, but am afraid to put out the money without the knowledge. My suggestion would be to attend a blogging convention. They have them in most major cities. I am going to attend one in February in Salt Lake City. Here is one in Mason City, IA in June. http://bloggingconcentrated.com/mason-city-2016 It can't hurt to rub shoulders with those folks who are successful at doing what we want to do, right?

Sherone, you can buy a domain and use it for your blog. If you use blogger, Google does allow you to buy your own domain. A domain can costs as low as $10.00 a year. What cost money is using a provider/host, which usually have templates and software you can use to create your website. I have purchased my domain for my blog and use blogger as the provider/host.
You can also purchase a domain from Go Daddy but linking it to your blog is somewhat complicated. I found that buying blog domain from Google, just makes it easier.
As for my business website, I use a different provider/host that allows me to have an online store. Although they have templates that I can use, I use software to create the website. I do know of a free web design software out there, check out the following:

You can also check out this article for other possibilities- http://where2.host/the-2017-top-website-builders/a/fb36efa463c34f6636fe25ba4340f390?gclid=CPTb1bqjpNICFRZLDQodvrsGIA
A professional website software is Dreamweaver by Adobe! Anything by Adobe is amazingly professional!
Of course, the path of least resistance is to use the templates provided with the provider you use, such as Blogger or wordpress etc...
Hope this helps! If you need assistance on how to purchase a domain from the Blogger setting, let me know. I will be happy to assist you.
Cheers!

I have a family blog that I have kept up for years, first using MS Front Page which I quickly learned was too limited (no longer available), then I moved on to Dreamweaver which I love, but I kept forgetting how to do certain things, I switched over for a short time to Google Blogspot, and my daughter was using wordpress kept trying to get me to switch, which I finally did a few years ago mainly ease of use and free to download the basic program and templates. Although I love Wordpress I have a lot to learn and finally bought the how too book that I hope to read over the next few months.
As for Adobe products I agree with Carole...they have some amazing products, especially Photoshop which I use all the time.
Just so you know, when you go with a web hosting company they usually offer to obtain a site name and renew it each year. In my opinion this is a must to help keep spam at bay and hide your address from the public. I have been with https://www.1and1.com/ for years and haven't had any problems. They offer many options that include several email addresses and easy webpage designs.
I would love to hear more about setting up an online business, as that is the direction I am hoping to go over the next year or two. If anyone has a site, how do you keep the site from being compromised along with personal and payment information stolen?
