My small stash of hand-me-down Iris bulbs have started to bloom..
Oh how I luv them so!

and then, my Artichoke plants.. I swear the leaves look like they are on steroids! lol!

we harvested 5 chokes off of this plant last year,, and I am surprised the plant is even bigger than last year... The other plant is big but not as big as this one...
I can hardly wait to see some chokes setting on and then enjoying them this summer... Yum!

Those are beautiful Grace. Ours are up about 6". They won't bloom for about a month yet. Enjoy!

That artichoke plant is amazing! We have a hard time over-wintering ours, so I often start from scratch each year. Even though we love to eat them, I sometimes have a hard time harvesting the chokes because those beautiful purple flowers are a favorite of the bumble bees in my yard

That is one big plant. Your cat looks so tiny standing next to it! Your iris is looking beautiful!

Krista... when we lived in Washington we started our chokes indoors in Feb. And did not plant them outside untill the end of May.. and covered the ground around the plants with 4-5" of straw to protect the roots.
Then at the end of gardening season we chopped the plants back to just above ground level (did that with most of the garden...) and covered with layers of straw and (vegtable ink) news print paper for the Winter.
Our chokes would come back... but smaller and fewer chokes the next year.

Grace, the Iris bulbs are so beautiful. I love the purple color.

Grace, we can't grow artichokes here. Our son in Austin Texas did and it was amazing. Please post pictures when it blooms and when it matures.
