I thought you all might understand why I was delighted to find SIX vintage aprons at the Salvation Army today! They are lovely! The gingham with chicken scratch is probably my favorite. Most of them appear to be handmade, except the linen one that is second from the left in the photo directly below. It has lovely machine embroidery on it. I will have to photograph the details in that one better when it's brighter out.

Elizabeth, great find on the aprons. Love everyone of them. Now you have aprons to fly for our Jubilee in May.

Thanks, ladies! I think they must have been someone's apron collection in a drawer. They are all perfect and had fold lines as though they were folded up for a long time. |

Such beautiful aprons. I'm sure there's a lot of memories in each apron. Marly

Love the red gingham! Reminds me of the "Home Ec" aprons we made in 8th grade. Your red one looks lovely with all the cross stitch detail! They had us tear the fabric instead of using scissors, so we would be certain to have a square cut. I wore my green checked apron for years.

I have a collection of vintage aprons also and look at flea markets thrift stores garage sales and many other sources. love the ones sewn by hand and old. average price is $8 great find and I to think about who might have owned them. my mom, aunts and grandmothers all wore aprons. I wear one to help serve funeral dinners at church.

Elizebeth, I see you have an apron addition/ collection too. I have 4 full body aprons and 3 half aprons. Some I have sewed myself, some came from estate sales and some came from Farmgirl mail swap. Such fun. Can you have too many aprons? Hee, hee. Serious, no. If one apron gets too many stains on it, I have a back up.

Aprons are a lot of fun, aren't they? I routinely run through my Salvation Army store looking for fun stuff but it is becoming more and more difficult to find. They are ebaying a lot of vintage things now and just carry really basic stuff at the store, like used clothes. But I keep looking, anyway! I have also found a great sewing box with vintage accessories there, too, which I now use as my current workbox.

These beautiful old table cloths are a combination of yard sale finds and gifts from a friend. I treasure them.

sweet aprons! I love the red gingham, too. The flower one next to it is gorgeous also. There's just something about vintage aprons, isn't there?

I used to do chickenscratch, brought back memories. I think I still have some books with patterns. Maybe I will give it a go again. I sew aprons to enter in the county fair. I bet no one else would enter one with chickenscratch. |
