Hi--I'm new to this Forum and although I don't live on a farm, have always been a wannabe farmgirl.

We used to keep goats when we lived in England and I really, really want to find somewhere local (I live in Spanish Fork, Utah) where I can buy raw goat milk. I make Kefir from raw cow milk and find it too rich and not as digestable as products made from goat milk. We can't keep our own goats at current address.

So if someone on this Forum can head me in the right direction for the milk --would prefer pasture fed goats if possible--I'll be forever grateful.

Thanks.
Anne

Yay!!! Another Utah gal! I am in Manti...so not too far south from you. If you ever want to make the trip I have extra goat milk all the time!!!
Lets see....I can give you names and addresses of a gal in Provo, one in Lehi and then there is Drake's goat dairy in WEst Jordan. Oh and I know another gal in Bejamin who may have milk.I think the dairy does pasteurize. Let me know if any of those are close enough! I come up to Provo every couple of weeks if you don't find someone else I can bring milk in a cooler.
I am so glad you are here!

Hi Jenny! Manti--do you know a good writer friend of mine, Shirley Bahlmann?

And yes please, I'd love to have an email or # for the Provo goat keeper. Do you know how much she charges for the milk? We get through about a gallon a week. And thanks for the kind offer of transporting from Manti if I can't get it elsewhere--that's really kind of you. Provo is probably the furthest I'd go, or Orem of course.

So do you have a farm in Manti? What a lovely place to live. We've been there a couple of times. Keep meaning to come to the Pageant but haven't made it yet!! One of these days . . .

I think I may have put my last message in the wrong place. Not sure how it got wherever it got. Did it show up in the New Members section? I had to do a search to find it just now.

Do any of you ever combine to buy poultry and other meats reared without the use of growth hormones, pesticides etc.? I'm buying beef for the freezer in June, through a health food store, but would prefer to go through a co-op of interested families if such a thing is available.

Thanks for the welcome.
Anne

Hi Anne..yes! I do know Shirley...not really well, but from pageant mostly and from the library story hour where we both volunteered and school, kid stuff! The gal in Provo is Shery Goodman...she is on Center street...way out to the west of the freeway. I have no idea what she charges. She may know someone else up there if she dosn't sell though too. I will have to find her email address. I have it here somewhere. Havn't got to talk to her in awhile.
Gosh I wish all the milk we went through was a gallon a week..we go through a gallon a day!!!
Nope,no REAL farm, just my little mini farm...we have 5 sheep, one angora goat and 4 dairy goats...two milkers, a buck and a doeling for milking next year. I also have a few dozen chickens and some rabbits.
My youngest 4 kids and I will be in pageant this year again (3rd year in a row) if you get a chance to come down you will have to come by. You could park at our place and walk over.
yep, your message showed up in the new members section. I always log on and then go to the active topics since my last visit..that brings up anything new...I find that alot easier than checking each forum.

Thanks, Jenny--I'll look Sherry up in the phone book this morning.

Your mini farm sounds perfect. We'll certainly look you up if we ever make it to the pageant. And I'll mention I've 'met' you to Shirley. What's your last name? She's just written a great book on dairy products that is awaiting publication, and has a new novel coming out this summer called "Fool's Gold"--she's a great writer.

If you find Sherry's email and want to send it privately, you can use my xtrafam@yahoo.com address if you like.

Thanks again for your help. Hope to meet you some day.

That sounds great. I hope Shery can help you. I wish I could remember her husbands name! If you don't find her in the phone book let me know. I do have her phone number for sure..can't locate her email address though..sorry!
I didn't know that Shirley had written a book about dairy products!!! That is so neat..I will look for Fools Gold to come out too..and for your books! Fun to know such talented writers. My talents for sure lie elsewhere..but I LOVE books! You will find that most of the gals on here love to read too!
My last name is Pipes. Last time I think I saw Shirley was at a pampered chef party that she and her son were doing at Judy Hansen's house...fun!
If it dosn't work out getting milk from Shery let me know and I will keep trying to come up with some other ideas.

Just looked in phone book and Sheri's not listed. There is a Kerrie in West Provo, but can't find a Sheri. So yes please, a # would be excellent.
Many thanks.

Hi, I live in Goshen, Utah. This is in Utah County, roughly 1/2 hour south of Provo.

I do sell Goats' milk from Mini Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf does. Our goats are on Dairy Herd Improvement (DHI) milk test. This test is for management, butterfat, protein and Somatic Cell Count (white blood cell) purposes. Generally our milk runs at about 5.5 to 8% butterfat, going higher usually in the fall. Usually the protein is running at about 4 to 5%. This milk is nice and creamy and I've had people tell us that it tastes like Cow's milk. I think it does too, as I grew up milking cows at home and drinking their milk. It is also great for soap, cheese and yogurt.

Soon we will be doing bacteria testing on our milk. My father-in-law is a microbiologist with Rim Lab in Lindon and his lab will train my husband and I to bacteria test the milk. I feel this is important for human consumption.

We are working on becoming licensed, but not quite there yet. At that point, we hope to be selling cheeses, yogurt etc. as well, but we are still in a learning curve there.

I also hope to learn to make soaps and lotions etc., as well.

So yes, we do sell raw milk for human and pet consumption.

Our dairy site is at:
http://www.homesteadmilkdairy.com/
although the website is currently under construction.

We also sell dairy goats, as well. Currently we have one little doeling from a heavy milking long term milking Nigerian Dwarf doe who will be for sale in a couple of months. She was born about 3 weeks ago. We also have a few wethers for sale.

---
I also know Shery Goodman in Provo personally.

Thanks,
Peggy

Ann, I tried to email you directly, but apparently I don't have enough posts of my own to be able to email you. Email me directly. Did you find milk? I know Shery personally.

I also sell goat's milk and I live in Goshen, roughly 20 minutes south of you. See my post just below yours. My email is: trunkbranches@yahoo.com, just in case you can't email me from this forum. As soon as I get the 'contact us' set up on my dairy website, then I will remove my email address from this post. But feel free to email me.
