Why on earth would a 12 year old boy think that he could stick a sharpened pencil into a thread spool, STOMP on it, and think he was gong to win??? What was he thinking!!!!!!!(yes, the pencil went through his sneaker and puntured his foot) LOL
Gotta laugh because I can feel the gray hairs poppin' out and the majority of them are named Greg!
I mean the school nurse called yesterday trying to explain this one, and I'm like you have GOT to be kidding me. He didn't think it was so funny when we started talking about stitches. She thought he may need one, but then put a butterfly on it and thought that would do. Don't worry, he just had a tetnas (sp) shot this summer when he sliced his leg open at the creek and got 15 stitches on his first full day of summer vacation!!!

It looks like you are really going to go the Clariol route very soon. Boys are a whole different breed then girls aren't they? Glad he is ok, watch for infection as I am sure you will.

Oh wow. I am watching my 11-month old boy play with his toy cart right now and he's trying to make it "go" while standing with it. He can't even walk yet! Is Greg's story a taste of what's to come for me? If so, thanks for the warning! I always used to babysit boys (never girls for some reason) but it was so long ago that I can't remember all of their antics. Okay, taking a deep breath, my baby boy is turning into a little boy very quickly!!

Oh Bonnie..I can sure relate (5 out my 7 kids are boys..including the 3 oldest who are grown now) we have had so many stitches and sprained ankles and like that...always for silly reasons too. Even a broken wrist on oldest son when he was 7. I have grey hairs named Greg too!!! (different reason though..that was ex husband's name..haha)
I ask you ...what GIRL would do a silly stunt like the pencil in the spool? None. Nancy is right..boys ARE a whole different breed. But Then I guess if they were the same things would be pretty boring right?
Catherine...hold onto your hat..your journey is just starting!! Haha.

OUCH! i raised two girls .. one was prissy .. one was sporty. with all the piouretting up and down the steps and with all the flip-flops up and down the stairs .. we never had any 911 calls or rushes to the ER. there really is a difference in that testosterone thingie! xo

HOWEVER ... my brother made at least one trip per year to the ER to have STITCHES put somewhere on his body! neither my sister nor i ever had a stitch or a broken bone.
but .. i'm betting there are some farmgirls here that can share some 'owies' with their own darlin' little daughters! xo

Oh that is me all over! I was the biggest tom boy! I never broke any bone but had pleanty of stitches and ER visits! I can't imagine how bad it would have been if I was a boy!

You had better hold on...it is going to be a bumpy ride!!! My oldest is 8 and he has already broke his arm, each of his fingers atleast once and his nose (the nose BEFORE he was 2 years old). His 5 year old brother (praise the Lord) hasn't broken anything yet, but has a tendacy toward bloody type injuries. The most recent one resulted in a gashed forehead, a black eye, a v-shaped gouge from the lower lip, a slit in the soft flesh just below the mouth where a tooth went through, a loose tooth (we are still watching to see if he will loose it), and a gash under the chin. I am so greatful that the Lord saw fit to let it happen just before hubby, a combat medic, showed up to patch him back together. I was hoping it would get better as they got older, but reading the adventures Greg had this week has dashed those hopes.

Ah the joys of boys! Our 12yo broke his foot the first night at summer Family Camp -- hadn't even been there 6 hours! and the 6 year old smashed the ends of the first two fingers on his left hand trying to smash a toy with a big rock! And that was only July and Aug! A history of broken bones, stitches, gashes, cuts, scrapes and bruises..........

Yikes! So now I am learning what I REALLY have to look forward to! You gals are wonderful and wonderfully funny. As most of you know, I have two little boys (3 years and 4 months) and now I'm just beginning to understand what I'm in for. It seems like Will (3) just cannot go a day without finding something sharp and rusty out in the yard or field, and I've told him SO many times to AT THE VERY LEAST, carry those things "point down," and to please see if there are other fun things out there that aren't rusty and pointy - so the other day he has this HUGE thing that looks like railroad spike that he's carrying around, point-down, of course, and I ask him to please put that in the "old metal" barrel, and he oh-so-sweetly says, "But mama, it's only sharp, it's not rusty!" As if THAT makes it okay to play with!!! BOYS! is right!!!!
Bonnie - I hope your little guy's foot is healing up well. Some of these things DO make you wonder what goes on in those heads, no?

My second son Casey fell two times before he was 5 years old and had stitches on either side of his forehead (ran into a brick wall chasing a balsa wood glider once, and tripped and hit his head on a rock in the yard playing with the dog the other time) so we had the ER visits with him too..he has two scars even now (he is 26) from the stitches, and we used to tell him that is where we had his horns removed.

Yep...boys. I have 3 and counting my blessings this year that we have only been to the emergency room this year 11 times...yes, 11 times. Only 13 staples, one broken arm and 12 stitches....whew...and they are only 4, 4, and 20 months.

Oh Eren! Wow! What sweeties you have! We made it to 11 1/2 b4 we encountered stitches. One boy and one girl though, they probably didn't "help" each other out finding "fun" things to do like your 3 may!

There is a special place in heaven for the mother of boys! (quote from a poster I saw somewhere)
Mine are 7 and 5 (17 months apart).
They are pretty wild. I remember running to the bathroom when Wesley was just 10 minths old and Nate about a year and a half. Normally I would have Wesley on my hip, sometimes nursing, and Nate following me in there so I was never alone. Anyway, this time I was and I guess I stayed in there too long because Nate came into the room asking me where's Weswey? and then he laughed. I went searching for him and Nate finally pointed to the clothes dryer. I opened the door and there sat Weswey with a sock in his mouth. Oh thank you Lord that Nate did not know how to turn it on.
I have more of those but I will save them for another time.

As a new farmgirl, I'm just beginning to explore all of the subjects covered here on this site; this one hit home. I have 3 boys (12, 14, 16). It's my 12 yo that will find the accident.
It is he who...
...stepped over a fishing pole laying on the ground, bumped it with his foot, it popped up and the hook was then firmly imbedded in his calf; had to have it cut out.
...landed on the back of his brother's head on a trampoline and broke his face and had such a serious concussion that the ER doc told me that he was not allowed to run, jump, play or be a real boy for a month after because if he fell again and hit his head we were looking at brain damage.
...while riding a scooter fell face down and came home a bloody mess.
...got hit in the mouth with a fence gate that sprung back and broke both of his permanent front teeth.
...got bitten by a copperhead in our backyard. Thankfully it was a dry bite (no venom).
Ah, yes, life with boys!

Believe me when the boys get older that doesn't mean that the crazy things stop. Our boys are the ages of 23, 19, and 17 with a son-in-law of 31. They are all the time doing stupid things. SIL tied a rope to a tree by the trampoline to pratice his jumps for wake boarding. Need I say anything more?????? Oh, and girls will try anything too.
