02/22/16: Taking down my Valentines Day decorations today, which are not many! Getting out some spring things in pastels and flowers! YES! CJ
Well, today I started undecorating my house from Christmas. I was going to leave things up a big longer but my kitty cat has cabin fever and keeps messing with my little Christmas village. So, I started by taking it down and decided to go on with the rest of it.
However, I'm replacing it with some winter decorations, such as a few snowmen, bottle brush trees, wooden mittens, wooden trees, tiny sleds, etc. It'll be for January before I change it out to Valentines decor for February!
I have a large fake evergreen wreath without any decorations that I hung on the outside of the house. I also have a few pairs of old white ice skates I'll get out and use for decor.
It's winter here, that's for sure! CJ

Sounds like fun Ceejay. I do kinda the same thing. Except my Christmas decorations were put up only a short time ago so they will stay up for awhile. Be sure to post pictures of your winter decks.

CeeJay I took my decorations down before Christmas ~ I was simply tired of them. For the last several years I have enjoyed my Christmas decorations less & less. As I put things up I gave some of my best and favorite decorations to my sister. I still have boxes of things so if my attitude changes toward Christmas decorations I'm all set. If not I will give them away.
But I do like and enjoy seasonal decorating which can stay out for the whole season. Also it doesn't seem to clutter my little house. So 2016 will be a year of seasonal decorating.

I started taking down the Christmas decorations after my daughter left on 12/27. Today or tomorrow , I will take down the tree. We had such a hot and humid December that I was just not in the mood for a lot of decorations this year. Plus, like Sara, I did as I get older, it just doesn't seem as fun to decorate as it did when the children were living at home. I have already downsized a lot of my stuff and now just have what we all enjoy the most.
Sara, I am like you and love to do some seasonal decorating as it comes along. One thing I am trying to do more of is to use only local natural materials and to learn how to have a keener eye on what nature is providing. Living in Florida means that my seasonal calendar does not provide the same items as much of our cultural traditions. Like Apples, for instance. We don't grow apples but they are iconic for Fall. Right now, our deciduous trees are turning color and with our above average December temperatures, we have some azaleas starting to bloom. It is hard to have a Winter theme going when Spring is starting early around here! LOL!! In reality, I end up doing a blend of what is local and what grows just a bit further north like around north Georgia.

My winter theme uses less items than my Christmas! I, too, am doing less for Christmas than I used to. I have SOOOOOOO MUCH Christmas stuff in the shed. I hope to go through it this summer and sort out things to donate to the thrift stores. I've already gotten rid of some things, but still have more to go. I also need to check all strings of lights and toss those that don't work any longer . . :/ CJ

I started to take my Christmas things down today and will finish tomorrow. I like to keep things up through New Year's Day. I also find myself decorating for the holidays less now that the kids are out of the house, but I want to do more this year. Here in Phoenix we don't really get much winter weather, more of a subtle weather change. I think that I am going to go strait to Valentine's decor.

I took down my decorations on the 26th and the tree yesterday. I love putting them up, but after a month I'm ready for a change. I decorate for the seasons as well as the holidays. My winter decor goes perfectly with the beautiful white snow we have outside. My back yard is forest preserve, so the snow is a welcoming addition to brighten things up.
Happy winter to all! Dawn in IL |

Really nice CJ! I 'll be taking my Christmas stuff down today, except the tree. That always stays up at least until Little Christmas (Epiphany, Jan. 6). Family tradition from the Italian side requires the tree to stay up until after that. Then onto the snow men, etc.!

I have three pair of old white skates and like to use them for January winter decor
Hanging on the edge of the warming shelf of an old wood cook stove that sits on our deck by the back door (strictly for decoration)

Hanging on a shepherd's hook with an old sheep bell at the edge of the deck, one of our big beautiful Colorado Blue Spruce trees in the background.

Hanging on a fake wreath on the side of the house by the door.

They'll all go down at the end of January! CJ

CeeJay, all your decorations are wintery festive but the white ice skates are a stoke of genius. I especially like the ones hanging on old stove.
I'm drawn to weathered old cowboy and work boots in all sizes. Have them sitting around and have used them as planters. Hadn't thought about hanging them as a pair. Holly branches stuffed in a pair should work but I don't have any holly. I do have a rosemary that needs pruning to keep it in its pot and should be plenty for the child's western boots. Wouldn't have to fill both boots. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks Sara! I love the skates too, my favorite pair are the ones on the wreath. They also have a buckle strap on them. I have an old pair of cowboy boots that I use to decorate with in the house. For Christmas they had striped wool socks in them with ball fringe trim. Now one of them has a fake evergreen branch in it. We think alike . . :D CJ

Well, you are ahead of me! Ha! My tree is still up... I am SO procrastinating.... I have had enough of it, I just am not looking forward to pulling everything out from under the stairs again.

Oh Ceejay those are adorable decorations! I love the snowmen and the sleds and skates. I also love the mason jar filled lamp. Hope you don't mind me stealing that idea. Great for Valentine decor!

All my Christmas decorations are down and have been for quite some time. I typically keep them up for a long time because I love Christmas so much. But this year I just simply couldn’t handle how cluttered and disastrous my living room felt. Between my massive amounts of decorations, the Christmas tree, my new rocking chair, and all the newly acquired baby items we were ripping at the seams!! I felt like a terrible Grinch taking it all down so soon but I feel peaceful now without all the clutter. I do have my seasonal winter decorations up, which consist of only two sets of wood block sayings.
