What is the best way to fold paper to make nice snow flakes, and what is the best kind of paper? My Grand daughters in kindergarden make better ones then I do. NANCY JO

Nancy Jo, we have a lovely paper snowflake pattern that is quite unique in the latest issue of Small Town Living. I made two large versions of it using various Christmas print scrapbook papers...and it was very easy but turned out quite lovely looking. You can adjust the size of the paper as needed. Check it out at www.stliving.net

Hi, Of the ways to make a snowflake that I have tried, I have found that the instructions in "Mrs. Sharp's Traditions" by Sylvia Ban Brethnach to give me the best results. It is simple, and you start with a hexagon. I want to try some of the sites that others here have recommended also. Good Luck! peapodjane |

Take computer paper and fold it diagonal to make a square and trim off excess. Fold folded edges of the square digonally toward the center making a smaller square. Fold edges in to center again making a triangle. Fold triangle in half at the crease and cut excess off of the bottom. Start cutting paper now for the flake. I'll try to post some photos on my blog tonight. I'll let you know when I do.

Thanks Julie for the fun and easy way to make snow flakes. Now I have little bits of paper all over the floor. Great snowflakes, Tasha and tell Grace she is a wonderful artist. MB

Tasha! Those are just lovely - so is the artwork - and anatomically correct !!! My favorite snowflake site (from the Google list, of course!) is [www.papersnowflakes.com]. Talk about some great patterns...

Tina -- We (my sis and I) had a great time making those huge dimensional snowflakes at my kitchen table this morning! But...we have a question: After you join three parts together and staple, and then the other three parts are stapled, do you then staple in the center when joining the two sets of three together? It seems like we need something to hold the center together.
We've done two already, using 5" squares, and they are just lovely! We made them out of plain white paper, and may add some glittery dots here and there using glitter glue. The possibilities / variations are endless -- you really got our creative juices flowing -- Thanks! |

Mine just turned out to be lots of little snippets all over the table, and nothing hooked together.......I tried all the web sites Tasha sent out, but evidently I am miss that brain cell that "makes paper snowflakes.......but I am going to keep on trying....just got three packages of white paper at Office supply store....Ho Ho and away we go.....

Hi Katie,
We did find that we had to staple them in the center to hold them better. So about 2 staples in the center should do the trick.
We used various colors of christmas prints scrapbook papers to make them.
Have fun. It gets addictive. ;0)

Good idea Margie, and Thankyou Tasha for the OK on this idea. I'll bring a loaf of home baked bread to go with that covered dish. Of course I will have to find someone to bake it first, but not a problem. NANCY JO
