That Mixer looks 81 years Old Grace...but it's adorable... hey my motto is "If it ain't broken don't fix it!"
I guess I never really thought about when mixers were first made and brought into the every day home kitchen.
I have to admit that my mom is 82 and her mixer (even when I was a kid) looked newer than yours. LOL
I remember using wooden spoons or our hands for mixing everything until Mama got that new fangled mixer!!
I think my mom is still using her original one too. As for me...I never owned anything but a hand held mixer and
I have gone through three or four over the years. Enjoyed your Blog!!!

Hugs and Smiles,
Peggy

Well I knew YOU weren't 81' and I'm not there yet either but those mixers still work like a charm. They were built to last.

Yep,,, back 'in the day' when 'Suzie Homemaker' took her kitchen device to the local handyman to clean and repair the device,,, mixer, vacuum etc... unless she had a really handy hubby Handyman. snork, giggle...
My hubby loves to tinker with 'devices' but now'er days the 'devices' are not meant to last more than 4 years on average.
Planned obsolete.... and in my book, very wastefull...

So fun! :0)
I recently won an old hand mixer at an estate auction. I don't know anything about it, I just loved the color. Now I am so curious! Looks like I have some work to do.

Kerry,,, I have a fun collection of various mixers, starting in the 1920's up to 1970.... after that I have never been terribly impressed with mixers produces after the 1970's.... I have a 1960's Sunbeam on my counter that I still use... but I also have a little $15 cheapy hand held mixer for uber quick go to mixer....

Kerry, post a photo of your mixer... I might have info on it.

What a great post! I love reading 'vintage' books and wish the English we used back then was as trendy as everything else 'vintage' seems to be today.

OMG Kerry,, I luv your Dormeyer... and the Color!
If I recall,,, Dormeyer got bought out by Hobart....(I'll double check)

I have a Dormeyer, but it is white... in fact,,, when we lived in Washington, my mom was visiting.. and as we sat having our coffee... she spotted my Dormeyer on the counter ( I had newly acquired it)... and she said,,, "oh my gosh! that was the 1st mixer I had here in the States"... Mom said she got it used at a 2nd hand shop... she said she got her's in the early 1960's and it was used.
Back then, on the Base (Military) there use to be 2nd hand/consignment shops that the re-assigned families could sell/buy stuff instead of moving everything...

You are soooo lucky to have this one and in Blue no less...
Have you checked it out yet? does it run? Check, or have someone check the Bushings as most likely they will need oiling...
I have over 23 mixers.. not including the duplicates.

I love thinking about our mom's and granny's.. who where thrilled to receive a Mixer... oh the things they could make... and even the little booklets that came with the mixers are fun to peruse through...

You are lucky to have the original box as well... did it have a little booklet?

What a Fabulous find!

Miss Grace, YOU ARE FABULOUS!!!

That is so fun! :0) It did not come with a booklet and I have yet to turn it on because I am sacred. :0/ I guess I'll just have to put on my big girl panties and go for it. Thank you for the heads up about the bushings.

Thank you so much for the cool news.

How do you display your mixers?
