OK, so today was my day to call and deal with insurance... our homeowners insurance has shot up from $993 a year to $3.400,00 a year,, yes you read that right! due to all the fires in and around us as well as the Casino being shut down (missing money and other issues) and currently our fire station, less than 1 mile away is on limited staffing,,, so the insurance companies have changed our rating around here from a 6 to a 10, and everyone's rates have gone crazy high!
So while waiting to get quotes back from all the companies I called today... I decided to clean out the closets...
I have 7 big sacks of clothing and 1 sack of shoes to donate...

I may be frustrated with the insurance company... but at least I can do something kind for someone else....
I spent the entire day laundering all the clothing before bagging them all up.
Now it's time to hit my secrete cookie stash (ginger snaps) and maybe even a small glass of Vino and go sit out on the back porch... Anyone want to join me?

Happy October

Grace, I feel your pain when it comes to dealing with insurance companies after major disasters. In the 1980's due to serve hail storms and black mold insurance companies pulled out of Texas. I had to scramble to get a new policy.

One of my favorite things is to dip crisp cookies in a glass of merlot.

Sounds like a plan, Grace. Cookies and wine. LOL!
I can't believe insurance has gone that high - so fast.
I got my insurance lowered last year because the city installed a new fire hydrant and it was on the back corner of my property. I was now less than 1,000 feet away from a hydrant, so my insurance was lowered. Even though we have a volunteer fire department.

I'm sooooo sorry, Gracie! That's a HUGE change! Our homeowners went up, but just a few dollars. Our car insurance went up too, but just a few dollars. I guess I'll count my blessings!

I'd love to join you for cookies and wine, but you'll have to find some yummy chocolate chip cookies for me!
Hang in there my friend!

Linda, there is a fire hydrant just 5 houses away... sadly it doesn't make a difference to the insurance company...
So far the best quote I got today was for $1.600.00 and I am still waiting for 2 quotes to come back in...
Gonna need a lot of wine and cookies...

CeeJay when I find the Choco ship cookie stash.. I'll call ya! lol!

Grace...that is just terrible about your Insurance! Goodness Girl!!! Cookies and Wine sounds like a good way
to deal with those frustrations...and a little sit on The Porch too! Here in our neck of the woods everyone is
having their rent go up so drastically that there is no longer affordable housing for low income or even lower
middle class income. People who are renting apartments have gotten notifications that there 750.00 per month
apartments are being raised to 1,360 a month. It is just insane! Scary really...as it is forcing more and more
people to the streets to live or in their cars.

Well, good for you doing something to help those in need by donating clothing and shoes. And I'm sure it helped get
your mind off the phone backs from the various Insurance Companies too.

Crazy times we live in!

Hugs,
Peggy

Grace...no I never did go to Sequime to the Lavender Fest. I didn't even know about it. LOL We have a
Wonderful Lavender Farm a few miles away from where I live and I get all my fresh lavender there. I
make Lavender and flax-seed eye pillows...and lavender sachets.

I will be in Spokane for a couple of days at the end of this month. I hate the long drive but this trip
is a must...so, I will also see my mom and stay with her for one night.

Times are tough all over and I feel very sorry for those who can't find a place to live because of price
gauging.

Have a good weekend! Do something fun!!!

Hugs,
Peggy

Grace. I really feel bad for you at the news of the upped insurance. How crippling. As if we all just have a cash pot in the kitchen drawer. Hope you can find a relatively reasonable solution. Thinking of you. Glad you haven't been in the fires.

Grace...I didn't know they got Trader Joes...WOW...Cowtown USA is moven on up!!! LOL
I did go into one of the Hobby Lobbys last time I was there and I got the cutest sign
for my Home that says "Urban Farmgirl" It is so cute. We don't have Hobby Lobby here
just JoAnnes and Michaels...so it was fun to shop there!

Well, you girls enjoy Hobby Lobby, JoAnns and Michaels. NONE of those here! Just Walmart . . . it has its pros and its cons!

Those are places that "Birdie" and I enjoy going to together when I visit here in Phoenix. She actually lives in Glendale and there is a really NICE JoAnns close by. A Michaels in walking distance and a nice Hobby Lobby not too far. But there is also a great Trader Joe's near JoAnns and the Sprouts is almost next door to the Michaels!

Thats funny that you all have been talking about Spokane, since coincidentally I just saw the cutest home for sale there on Craigslist. Its 150,000 and theres a tenant renting the garage apartment already. Sounds like a great deal! Never ben to Spokane meself but I look all over for jobs and I found that cool place for sale. I would be very upset to have to pay 300$ a month for taxes OR property insurance!

CeeJay... what is a 'Sprouts"...??? I saw one down the mountain in Fresno... is it a market? or?

Anna,,, if it were not for the snow... in "Sno-kane" I probably would have stayed.. lol! (actually we came back to Calif., to be near our ailing elderly moms... so we are here for now but not for ever)..
Housing prices are not bad,, it's like anywhere,,, depending on the jobs is what drives up or down the home prices... There are some really high end homes as well as low end.... but lots of turn of the century and early 1900's home...... No State tax but the sales tax is aprox 8.25 depending on the county you live in...
I do miss it there...

Sprouts is a great market, organic, healthy stuff! Produce, meats, all kinds of "non-synthetic" health care products! Robin shops there for a lot of what they eat. Love 'em!
