All I can say is enjoy that pressing and making cider! YUM! My dad used to have a press that pressed 40 gallons at a time.
However, he is in heaven and the press was sold in our farm auction, but it was the ABSOLUTE BEST cider!

Hope you get some great advice on pressing your own cider Michele. I'm sure it will be delicious. It's great you have so many sources to get your apples from. Have fun and let us know how your cider tastes!

I love Apple Cider but it doesn't love me for some reason. I can eat apples ok...just not
drink the Cider. I love the smell of it and always want to try again to drink it but then
find myself running for the bathroom. Some people have told me it is the natural pectin on
the apple that I'm allergic to. Beats me what causes it! But it takes some fun out of the
Season for me. Enjoy your Apple Gala!!!

Peggy

My apple press arrived today. I got the screw shaft greased and the first coat of food grade poly on the wood basket part. Will do another coat tomorrow morning and let it sit till probably Sunday and give it a try. I can't wait to see how it works. Dawn told me that MJ had a recipe for making ACV in her mag. Will have to look for that. From searching, I have found that fresh juice and cider are the same thing. Juice has the small particles strained out, cider you leave them in. I thought I read somewhere that you can press cranberries too. Anyone ever hear/try that?

So glad your pressed arrived for you Michele. Please keep us posted on how you do with it. I'm sure you will have great success and hopefully lots of cider to last the winter. I am curious about the cranberries too. Hope someone lets you know about them.

First pressing went well. Figured out we had to cut the apples pretty small for them to go through the crusher. Used 8 different apple varieties and the juice/cider turned out pretty darn good. I canned up 7 jars for juice and froze a milk jug of cider. Most of our apples are cooking apples, but still the juice really does not need any sugar, which was a great surprise. Had roughly 4- 5 gallon buckets of apples an got roughly 4 gallons of juice. The only problem was these darn bees. Not sure what they are but they are not my honey bees. Next pressing will be next sunday hopefully. It is something that goes faster with more hands. Hopefully the kids can all come, have a picnic and press some apples. Lovin my new press.

Wow! You had quite a success your first time with the press. I'm amazed by how much juice you go too. Sorry to hear the bees were bothering you, hope you did't get stung! Next weekend's pressing picnic sounds fun. Hope everyone can make it.

Could you find some mosquito netting or a tent and make the cider in there so there are no bee issues?

Good idea Bonnie. we may just do it inside. it does not make a mess. If we had a screened tent that would be handy. Thanks Linda and Dawn we will enjoy it this winter!
