Try packing a piece of sugar free gum in the part that is broken off...this will keep food or drink (hot or cold) from hitting the exposed nerve. Then take an over the counter pain reliever. This is only a temporary fix...then get on the phone and see if a Jr. College in your area has Dental Classes...a lot of times they will allow inexpensive services so their senior students can practice. Or see if any churches in your area do free clinics for oral health.
Just a few things to try.
Praying for you, Peggy

I too was going to suggest Oil of Clove...but it sounds like she has exposed nerves...which need covered. Good suggestions!

Callene, I am so sorry to hear about your tooth pain! Most Obamacare plans are for healthcare only and only a few in each state offer dental as well. It sounds like this tooth needs some immediate care and possible extraction as soon as possible. If you are worried about paying for dental care, I would suggest you go to Grady Memorial Hospital Emergency room in downtown Atlanta. You have to be seen if you present to an ER. You can work out an emergency payment plan for the visit and at least get some pain medication. They also might be able to refer you to a dental clinic down there for people without insurance for proper follow-up care. This tooth may be abscessed and if you don't take care of it soon, you might be in for a much more complicated problem. Nobody likes to incur medical debt but I would urge you to not manage this without proper medical/dental intervention. It is not going to resolve itself on it's own and has already broken off and exposing the root. I hope you can get some help soon as I know you are in a lot of pain and misery! Good luck and let us know if you get it take care of soon!!

Callene, I was going to mention oil of clove also. But sounds like the root is exposed. I strongly suggest that you go to an ER and then work out a payment plan. I hope that you will be able to find help and some relief.

Thank you so much ladies for your help and advice.I will go to an ER if it does(when it does)get worse.I used vanilla extract today, but to much and you kinda feel drunk.Or worse sick at your stomach, but the pain is doing that.I almost am in so much pain I want to tie fishing line on it and slam a door.I took jewelry pliers to a shattered tooth in 2010,was in that much pain.It was abscessed,I kept a kidney bean on it to draw out the infection.Sounds weird but it worked. This is just the cherry on top.Life is something. But it is what it is.Again THANK you.

I go to the University of Minnesota Dental School. They have clinic hours to practice their profession and charge so much less while being supervised by the instructors. Some of the more extensive procedures such as crowns and metal fillings are free if one of them needs to perform the procedure for a board exam. I would look for something like that. They can give you continuing care also.

Oh Callene, tooth pain can be so so debilitating...I am praying for you. Wish any farm gal who needed extensive work could come to India and get their dental work done there.Up to date equipment, environment for very little $$$$. Can you imagine getting a root canal and crown for$60?????? I am very pleased.

Thank you.I think the cost of a airline ticket would pay for extraction here, though. But if you needed a whole lot done, might be worth it.God bless.quote: Originally posted by Beverly Gill

Oil of cloves on a piece of gauze and usually if you are paying cash a dentist will give you a percentage off of the bill. We pay cash and it works well for us.

Callene, So sorry you are going through this. Some things that worked for my hubby in the past was Oregano Oil or Grapefruit Seed Extract for the antibiotic action. You can find lots on info on line for both of these and they are easy to find at most natural food stores or place like the Vitamin Shoppe. He also used a couple to homeopathic remedies, you can go to abchomeopathy.com and use their remedy finder and it will make recommendations based on your symptoms. You can then look at each of the remedies and choose the one or two that may work for you. I have also used a wax to cover a broken tooth to protect it from heat or cold and also to protect my tongue from the broken tooth. It's called either dental wax or orthodontic wax and is sold in most drug stores, it should be near the toothbrushes and floss. Its in a small snap case with 4 or 5 sticks of wax. Just pinch off a small section and soften it between your fingers, dry off your tooth and press into place. If your fingers and your tooth are dry it sticks very well but is easy to pop off when you want to eat. Like Marie suggested a dental school my work for you, the only one in Georgia is in Augusta I think but Florida has a few so that might work too. Hope this helps some.
