Judy~ LOVE that beautiful photo of the pumpkin patch!! It makes me want to buy a small one and cook the meat to make a pumpkin pie! I love cooking with fresh pumpkin meat. Does anyone else cook up pumpkins and use the fresh meat instead of the canned product? My mom always used real pumpkin meat and she taught me how.

I have a freezer full of pumpkins we harvested last year for baking with :) We have not used canned pumpkin for years! I really need to dwindle down my supply, as pumpkin season is quickly approaching. I'm thinking some pumpkin muffins and pancakes may be on the breakfast menu in the near future :)

The only way I have cooked fresh pie pumpkin is like roasted squash. Clean it, cut in slices or chunks, sprinkle with olive oil, butter, herbs of choice, & S&P. Roast at 425 till tender and serve as a side dish.

My sister takes the top off pie pumpkin, cleans out the meat to be used in another dish. Fills pumpkin with fixings for beef stew and cooks at 350 into the stew and pumpkin is done.

Sara,
Both of your ideas sound good. For two years I had beautiful pumpkins my garden . . . along with summer and winter squash. Then came the squash bugs. We were able to stay ahead of them the first year and harvested all of our pumpkins and squash. BUT we cleaned up the garden and all the vines and burned it all. The 2nd year was actually worse. We were able to harvest our summer squash but couldn't keep ahead of them and they completely destroyed all of our winter squash and pumpkins. Haven't planted any of those things since! Probably won't for a while. Give it a few years to see if they die off and perhaps try again with just a couple plants. That was so disappointing and those bugs are so, very NASTY!!!!!
Hoping to find some good pumpkins this year from a local grower!

We had a cool snap blow through with an inch of rain so I am really in the fall spirit today. The other day I put my fall wreaths out. The sunflowers on yellow grapevine wreath on front door. A bigger yellow grapevine wreath with fall flowers & wee shovel on gate in front of my little cottage.

I made both of the wreaths and really like painting grapevine wreaths colors to match my decor.

I am procrastinating and still haven't gotten any of my fall decor out yet. I do have a beautiful candle Winnie made for me. I really need to get going but today is not the day for it. I have tons to do getting some apples dried and some pies made but can't seem to get time to do it. So much going on all the time. But I do love Fall. It is my most favorite season!!

Connie you took the words right out of my mouth. A double dose of fall would be nice.

I don't want to skip summer ~ lets say a week of hot & humid summer just to remind us why we love the fall so much.

Fall Flowers! We rarely get deliveries of flowers out here in the country. It has been decades since I got flowers delivered! These are from My sweet Lily June! She emptied her Piggy Bank for Granny bear!
