Our DS, who is 15 and has Asperger's, recently saved his father's life. As most of you know, my DH is diabetic. Doctor's have been trying new meds, including the injection pens. Thursday night around 11:30, DH was snacking on some trail mix when DS noticed him slump over and become incoherent. He ran to get the tester and tested him. His blood sugar had dropped to 22. He grabbed a honey straw and emptied that into his dad's mouth. He waited briefly and checked his sugar again. Up to 35. He gave him a sip of gatorade and woke me up. We gave him some more honey and a glucose tablet and more gatorade. He was babbling and sweating profusely so we rushed him to the ER. He was up to 101. When we left at 2:30 they had him over 200 and wanted him higher because the meds he was on would peak around 4 am and could have caused him to crash again. The ER staff told my son if he had not been paying attention or had been asleep like me, we probably would have been planning a funeral over the weekend. I am so thankful that DS listened to me when I explained to him months ago what to do if this scenario ever happened. He stayed calm and collected. I am so proud of him. DH is doing fine after spending 2 days in the hospital while they readjusted his meds again. He was back out raking hay the same day he got out of the hospital. Said he felt fine but you better believe I was keeping a very close eye on him.

Oh Lora! Your DS is such a good kid. As a Type 1 Diabetic, I know how scary this is. I have lived alone most of my life and thank goodness this has never happened to me, although I have been close. Your DH is so lucky to have you and DS to help him. Give that kid a big hug from me.
