I made some little snowmen -- still working on them -- and it requires stitching after they're stuffed. One of the things is to go in at the back of the neck and come out where the buttons will be to make a little indentation. As I'm doing this I realized that I need a longer needle! Are there special long needles for making dolls?
I'm really getting hooked on this and can see myself making more dolls and stuffed crafts. Wondered what a basic list of doll making supplies would be. I have the tube turner that Frannie recommended. Thanks. Kay
Yes! There are long needles that people use for attaching arms with buttons for moveable joints. I would look at a craft shop near the doll or bear making stuff...they are long and about as big around as a darning needle!
You can usually find dollmaking needles at any sewing/fabric store that sells sewing notions. They are a fairly standard item, although you can find specialty needles at any of the dollmaking stores.
They have the best selection of doll making stuff I have seen AND their prices are reasonable. They also have EYES for making dolls, stuffed animals and so forth, which I have not been able to find in stores.
Hi Kay, I buy from clothdollsupply.com They have anything you could possibly need, and also lots of neat patterns and tips for dollmakers. They may have a list of items they suggest every dollmaker have on their site. I'd be happy to give you my list if you're interested. Everyone has their preferences. You might want to buy a long, very slender needle for dollmaking. Sometimes you will want to keep the needle hole small as when needle sculpting a face. How exciting that you are enjoying dollmaking so much! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of what you are making next! Blessings, Rhonda
Thanks for all the info! I'm not making dolls yet -- just cute little snowmen. But I know that I would like to do some prim dolls and other things so need to get the right stuff to make it easier! I'll post pictures of the snowmen before I take them to the bazaar. Hopefully they will all sell!
