I know it is winter and not many are going to the beach any time soon but remember this for the next time you go. Take the container of baby powder with you and before piling all those hot sandy bodies into the car for the long drive home, dust everyone down with baby powder and the sand just brushes off. Makes for a much more comfortable ride home.

And, as the weather warms up, nothing beats hopping into a bed that has had baby powder lightly rubbed into the bottom sheet - it feels like you're sleeping on silk all night long. My mom used to do it with cornstarch when we were little, and I just LOVE that feeling.

Cornstarch, arrowroot, and baking soda are great alternatives to talcum powder. I love using it in the summer time.

Kay - YES!!! I should mention that the baby powder I use is made of 100% cornstarch.

Libbie--I'd love to know where you find baby powder made of 100% cornstarch. Im using just plain old cornstarch right now and it kind of doesnt smell good though it gets the job done.

I have made scented powder with 100% cornstarch by putting the corn starch in a jar, and burying 6 or 8 fresh lavender flower heads in it..a week later: pull out the leaves and the scent stays behind. Yummy smell..really cheap to use corn starch too!

You can also take regular cornstarch, put it in your food processor and put in a few (or many) drops of your favorite essential oil. Blend well and you have a great baby powder or sheet powder. This is actually how I make a sheet powder that I LOVE! Any scent will do! Once I even used a fragrance oil that smelled like a guy's cologne....mmm...instant cuddly sheets!

I sometimes use just plain cornstarch, but Johnson's & Johnson's makes a 100% cornstarch baby powder - you just have to look for the one that says "pure cornstarch with aloe and vitamin E" in it - it's written fairly small, so you might have to look hard. I'm such a sucker for that good ol' baby powder smell! I'm going to have to try scenting my own, however - those are some great ideas, gals! - I think chamomile might be nice...

XOXO, Libbie

The soapmaking supply place (can't think of the name offhand) up in Orem has baby powder scent oil. I made baby powder scented soap once a few years ago.Heavenly stuff.

This site has a lot of differnt supplies- even bulk oils. I am not sure of how organic or eco-friendly they are- but their fragrance oils sound amazing!

I've always enjoyed using corn starch instead of baby powder. You just need to be careful not to let it go loose on the floor, because it's food, and it will attract bugs. I'd be leery of using it on sheets for that reason. Maybe adding the right essential oil would alleviate that problem. In Provence, they'd probably use lavender -- it keeps scorpions off their windowsills, after all.
