I am taking a couple of first tentative step into the world of gardening and planted tomatoes and pickling cucumbers in pots. Lo and behold, they are starting to produce! How do I know when the cucumbers ready to pick? I only have one so far, but I want to be prepared! :) Thanks!

Happy Day!

I prefer them when they are just about 4-6"s long. Any bigger and they don't have any taste. Congratulations on your gardening success! Enjoy your bounty.

If you're doing pickles it depends on what size you want your pickles to be. My hubby does spicy dills and doesn't want them too big because they get mushy in the middle.
Happy cucumber-ing! :D

Harvested my first one yesterday! Recent storms knocked the whole kit and kaboodle over twice, but it survived! :) Also harvested my first 4 tiny tomatoes, which my mom And I promptly ate. What a rush! Thanks for all the good advice!

Happy Day!

Amy, I love the tiny tomatoes. Yesterday I picked about twenty out of the garden, and ate them all before I got in the house. LOL
