Hey Y'all!

Is there any more info for a 2016 Jubilee yet? If I understand this right, we are celebrating together (not necessarily travelling to a particular location on a specific date). Is that correct? I'd love to be a part of a Jubilee and if there ARE some sisters in the central Texas area that meet up, please let me know. I am a "planner" and having a few months to ponder such an event gets me EGG-cited!! <chicken humor for those of you who might also be in love with your hens!>

DL -

There are several of us in Dallas and east Texas (just south and southeast of Greenville). Perhaps we can get together for lunch or something.

Hi Everyone. I have been MIA for awhile but when I heard about the Jubilee, I had to rejoin.
This is the Jewish Jubilee year (Sept 14, 2015 thru Oct 2, 2016)
It is also the Catholic Jubilee year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis from Dec 8, 2015 thru Nov 16(?) 2016.
So I think having a Farm Girl Jubilee this year is a triple blessing.
My idea for an activity is to plant a rose bush or a tree that will grow on long after the Jubilee year is over. I love the apron idea too.

I love roses but am not successful at growing them. I'd probably plant either a peony plant (I want one of the deep dark fuschia colored ones) or another columbine plant.

I too love roses but have felled miserably to grow them here. Whether in the ground or in containers there's just too much shade. I will do like I did last year and plant the Herb of the Year. When I find out what it will be this year I will post it.

Columbines are my very favorite flower and the Colorado Columbine grows wild in our mountains, is our state flower.
But I love peonies too, have some gorgeous pink ones that are full, "fluffy" and soooooo fragrant! They are several years old. I have some white ones as well, that are younger and last year was the first they bloomed.

So, we'll see . . .

P.S. You can buy "domesticated" versions of columbine plants here and I have some of the light blue/lavendar, some dark pink, some very pale yellow and some dark purple, planted all around the yard/house. They do well here.

Couldn't we all choose a "Jubilee" plant we could use for our own celebrations and one that does better in our location?

Hey Bonnie,
That would be my vote . . . a plant that works for our area. For example: columbines would not do well in humid climates.

Last year I remember roses & herbs were planted. A mixture of herbs ~ not all Herb of the Year. When it comes to plants it has to be a personal choice. Location ~ Water ~ Care ~ Cost ~ all will determine the plant we choose. Even not planting one at all is a choice.

I tend to like things loosey-goosey where everyone celebrates our Jubilees their own way. With one exception I do like the idea of an official apron. But even then we have choice of fabric & to frill or not.

This will be my first Jubliee, I am very excited for it. The Apron idea is great. not only will I gather my girls eggs but it will be full of yummy veggies this summer! another Idea may be a heirloom recipe exchange forum, where we can share grandmas cooking, or celebrate by send thinking of you cards to Elderly farmgirls to spread the cheer love to all

Reading through this post, I had an idea. How about "Celebrate Your Roots"? One project could be to plant something. Flowers, veggies, trees, whatever you desire. For those of us who garden, maybe try something new? Something that you've always wanted to try, but haven't? For gardening newbies, maybe it could be something as simple as putting some marigolds in a pot. Whatcha think?

I have just recently put in a small herb pot garden. They are fine ally HAPPY. I also planted two new grape vines. I am hoping these two will live.
