Hi Farmgirls,
Wondering how our farmsisters are in Texas? Praying for the whole state, and for my family (all in Texas). My dad is okay, their yard is flooded but so far nothing in the house yet. My brother is okay, but was up all night watching. They have no water in the house yet, either, but he says it is bad. (He was a policeman for 31 years, if he says it is bad, I do worry).
So far, everyone I know is safe, but the stories of those beautiful families that are missing is heartbreaking.
How's our Texas farmsisters? Y'all okay?

Nicole - we do not have a tv and I have no clue what is going on.... rather than searching the internet and finding half truths, lol, I was hoping you could fill us clueless farm girls in... sounds like there is flooding of some description happening...

Hey Shannon,
It's been raining across the state, but the hill country is hit hard. Wimberley is hit hard, with several people washed away. Rivers are overflowing, water is rushing like rivers where there are none, and the entire state has closed its schools. I grew up in Houston/hill country, so I have been in contact with my family. The news plays on the worst, but it is pretty bad down there. Houston got hit hard last night in a matter of hours. People at a Rockets basketball game were told not leave, roads are flooded, and it is worrysome.
After a long several year drought, nature is making up for herself...all at once!
Any Texas farmgirls want to report? We are praying for you all!

The river that's near Wimberley crests at 13' ~ it crested over 40'. Locally water is over the spillway at Lake Texoma. Only 4 times since it was built in 1943 has it done that. The lake is on TX OK border.
Southern OK is flooding and TX is flooded in some degree from the OK border to the coast. More rain on it's way. The nearest river to me is The Red River - some 40 miles north. Paris, where I live is water logged but so far no flooding in town.

So scary, also in Oklahoma and with the drought in California. We've had some bizarre events on the east coast with strange rip currents and rogue water spouts. Praying for everyone battling the elements!

Thanks y'all for the concerns and prayers.
We're about 30 miles north of Houston. So far, my property has about ankle/knee deep water but no major damage and we're doing fine. My farmyard is awful and I have no higher ground to put all my animals. They're miserable. Except for the ducks!
All regularly scheduled tv programs have been pre-empted by the flood coverage. So, there's a lot to report on. All major highways in and out of Houston have some flooding and closures. Approx. 3000 cars were caught in a flash flood and people were stranded in the flooded road. The cars are still there waiting to be removed.
The San Jacinto river is about two miles away from us and has overflowed its banks and is flooding some neighborhoods. If people were not able to evacuate, they're being told to stay in their homes and be prepared to be flooded in for a week or so.
Even if the rain lets up, the flooding in our area will continue due to the rivers and flooding from Austin, Dallas, and Conroe will be draining into our rivers and bayous.
During hurricane season, the grocery stores usually experience empty shelves because people are preparing. Right now, the same thing is happening. People are preparing to be hunkered down. But, while the shelves are emptying, they're not filling up quickly due to shipments not being able to travel into the area.

Thank you girls for the prayers. I am in Pipe Creek and received 8 inches over the weekend and into Monday. But plenty of less threatening rain had previously fallen the week prior. It has been quiet for the last 24 hours now but more is on the way. Just 15 miles North in Medina people are trapped. Just 35 miles to the south in San Antonio people have been without power. I am praying that people in our area will use extreme caution to the water over the roads.

Hi Farmgirls, Kelly and Katherine, I am so glad you all are okay. My brother and dad are good, thankfully. My cousins and aunt are okay, too. We have family friends of my mom's whose house has over three feet of water on the first floor and their guest cottage in the back is completely gone, but no one hurt. And a friend of mine saw an alligator in her backyard!
I heard the Houston galleria has two feet of water, too. Sad to see my hometown in such a crisis. And my friends in Oklahoma, too! Keeping our prayers with you all down there!

We have a break in the rain today. That will certainly help.
Rivers and bayous are still rising and one of the upstream dams had to be opened to release pressure. So, that water will be coming this way.
People are heeding the warnings and evacuating as suggested.

It always blows my mind how some part of the world is getting too much at the same time others are praying for some! We are in no way, shape, or form having a drought... but we are dry and need rain. With that said, continuing to pray for the safety of those affected by all the rain!!!

My hubby and I live in Kerrville. We are fine. No high water around us. Thank God! We did get a lot of rain, but today is sunny and beautiful.
It seems the worst of the weather was to the east of our area. Hope all other Texas girls are okay.
