We have 22 eggs in one incubator and 18 eggs in another incubator that, if all goes well, should be hatching today and tomorrow. This never gets old! It's always exciting to see how many hatch out and what we end up with. We collected eggs from our hens, candled at a week, got rid of what wasn't fertilized, and are anxiously awaiting to see how many new chicks we have to add to our farm. :) Will keep you posted!

Congratulations!
My sister who has some 50 or so chickens says that the peeping of baby chicks is the sweetest sound she knows. You'll have a lot of sweet sounds soon.

I love the sound of those first attempts at peeping, like they're calling each other out of their shells. It's so awesome!

Our incubated chicks are about a week old now and I totally agree with you, it never gets old. This year we had one "hatch" 36 hours late. It really only got to make its pip hole. About 12 hours later I assisted to get the top off. It still didn't come out so a few hours later I peeled it out all the way. (This doesn't usually go well, if you haven't tried it.). Well my little one survived the shelling. I left for work and came home to find it in the same egg shape without the egg. I then tried a warm soak to get the remnant egg liquid wet again. The chick really seemed to like it. Just to be a little more crazy I even carefully hair dried it. The next morning it was walking around in the incubator so out it went with the others. It has been about 6 days and it is still smaller than the others but doing great! It doesn't seem to remember all my efforts but my husband and I will.

That's amazing! I only tried to help a chick out once and it didn't go well. So glad your little one is up and moving around!

Well, no signs of ANYTHING happening in incubator #1, which should have hatched yesterday. We've used this incubator several times but we are wondering if something is wrong with the thermometer or the thermostat and maybe it's a bit on the cold side? We will let it run a few days longer and see what happens. BUT incubator #2 has chicks pipping right now. Yay! Hoping for some chicks to successfully pop through to brighten up this cloudy rainy day!
