I'm having fun hosting swaps and here is a fun "let's get ready for the summer sun" swap. We've made our aprons and clothespin bags and now we need a sunbonnet to keep the sun off our heads when we are hanging clothes out on the clothesline. Everyone who signs up will make a sunbonnet for their partner. Tucks are welcome but not necessary. There is enough time that everyone who signs up can go ahead and make their bonnet and have it ready to send out.

Signups end: May 30
Send-out date: June 15

Signups: NOTE: Your SEND TO Partner is NOT the same as the one who will send a bonnet to YOU! Please contact your swap partner to get THEIR address!

Question. Are we doing old fashioned, vintage or modern?

Look at this one! It is beautiful, and so fancy. Quite a "go to the city" bonnet.

Omgosh, Linda! I checked out that pinterest link and could hardly leave it! I just kept going deeper and deeper into related boards. Thanks so much, for posting it! I just took a virtual Mother's Day road trip.

LOL! I love your term - road trip - through Pinterest. I get so sidetracked sometimes - and the ideas, patterns, and great projects on pinterest keep me occupied for a loooooooong time sometimes.

I purchased 5 bonnets at a florist shop here in town that also carries some neat things she has bought at garage sales. There are 4 different styles (2 are alike LOL). One of the patterns I posted would make two of them, because they are very similar. The two that are alike are a super super simple pattern. The 5th sunbonnet is very neat - and I'm going to try to make a pattern for it. I love searching for new patterns.

LOL! I live in a town of population 598. People can be very creative and the owner supplements her florist business with the items she has for sale in the shop.

Judith -
You asked for pictures, so here are pictures of the 5 sunbonnets I found at a local florist/resale shop in my little town:

This first picture is two hats that are made the same - I'm showing one flat and one snapped together. It is a very simple bonnet made flat with ties and two snaps added at the back edges.

This next picture is an apron/bonnet (similar to one of the links in the original post) but with elastic added in the waistband between the buttons. It has 2 pockets. And the other is just a flat bonnet with a tie strip feeding through 2 grommets. This is not a very comfortable hat for me and because it is stiff it does not want to stay put. Maybe it would fit better with a different kind of stabalizer?

The last picture is another apron/bonnet with an added ruffle at the back neck/waistband. This one has 3 "pockets" in the apron, and has cardboard cut to fit in them for when used as a hat.

What do you think?

Those bonnets are so sweet, Linda! I love the top bonnet (Haven't seen one like it) and the apron/bonnets especially. The fabrics are so cheerful! Thank you for sharing pictures!

Yes, that first one is very easy and can be shipped flat! If anyone wants a pattern it will be easy to trace and I could send it. Basically, it is two pieces of fabric with stiffener between, channel stitched the shape of the curve, ruffles on both long edges, two ties on the underside stitched through all layers, and 2 larger snaps. Not too too confusing. LOL!

There is one more I need to take picture of - but I have it in 2 pieces right now - LOL! - because I'm trying to make a pattern for it. It is a bit more involved and if it works out I'd like to make some.

The first one looks pretty easy, Ally. Send me your address and I can mail you a pattern and email close-up pictures. Since there are no written directions, I'm mostly going by pictures and a few measurements. LOL!
