Hello. My name is Cathie. I live in Talmo, Georgia. My husband and I live on 5 1/2 acres with our three dogs and cat. We (at this point) raise chickens and ducks (for meat and eggs). At the end of the month we will be getting pheasants. We also raise rabbits for fiber and meat. We have American Chinchilla for meat and German Angora for fiber. I am in the process of learning how to spin fiber into yarn. I enjoy gardening, canning, brewing beer and wine, making cheese, sewing, making soap, home made cleaners and jewelry. I try to keep busy, which is pretty easy. I look forward to chatting with you and learning new things. Until then, have a wonderful day.![](icons/icon_smile.gif) |

Welcome to Our Farm, Cathie!! It sounds like you have a very busy little farm up there in Georgia. I would love to learn how to spin fiber into yarn one day. Do you then knit what you spin?

Thank you for the welcome. So far, I have made (with the Hubby) cheddar, ricotta, and a quick farmhouse cheese (kind of like ricotta). It is a lot of fun. That is why I want goats, so I can learn to make feta.

Thanks, No. I haven't knit anything yet. Don't laugh... I'm also learning to knit as well. I do, however crochet. I haven't gotten the hang of making the yarn yet, still playing with it and learning my spinning wheel. the hard part for me is making it stay spinning in the right direction.

Welcome, Cathie! We are adding pheasants to our farm for the first time this year. Are you starting with chicks? Eggs? We have chicks coming the middle of May and then hubby wants to keep a few breeding pairs and incubate eggs in the coming years. :) Nice to meet you!

Hi Cathie!
Welcome! Sounds like you are a busy farmgirl! Your farm sounds lovely. Pheasants are awesome. We have family friends down in Texas who raise them. They release them to try to get the population back up since it declined in recent years there.
Enjoy!

Hi Cathie: welcome from the Pine Tree State! We also have a small farm , egg and meat chickens and vegetable gardening mostly. I love to crochet. It's terrific how many things you are able to do. I am looking forward to goats but we are living in a camper while my hubby builds our dome. Last year we had so many birds and projects that the house didn't get done so this year priority is the house... I look forward to hearing more about your farm and activities...

Welcome, Cathie! I live in Pennsylvania and though I hail from a little river town near Pittsburgh, called Oakmont, there are many rural areas nearby. There are some seriously accomplished farm girls here and you sound as though you're just as good at cultivating this lifestyle as the rest of them. I sort of live through everyone's farm life, but I am aiming to introduce small things to my home! Your work sounds amazing.

welcome to farmgirls cathie. I am also learning to spin have a bunch of wool just got cleaned not have to wash that will be fun. lol I have a llama but is black so not a very versitle color to work with. I have a 46''floor loom just getting restored was in storage 20 years and hope to be back into action soon I will be weaving most of my yarns spun. I tried crochet and well lets say I just need to move onto something else lol will look forward to hearing about how yours turns out. I am in process of learning to make homemade soap. My mom makes it and will let her teach me since she has it perfected. I don't use any thing else anymore. do you have a favorite kind of soap you like to make? I was on hold for a while on my farmgirl roots but am getting back into it and there is nothing better.

Hello, My name is Jennie. I am a new farmgirl sister. I am thrilled to find this forum. It is exciting to see many of my interests shared by everyone in one place. I am a homeschool mom and I also work full time. Last year, I home schooled and worked two jobs. I can't handle that this year. I have one son who has graduated homeschool and who is married now and in the military. One older son, who recently moved to the Ozarks to live with me, while he finds his own place here, and I have a 14 year old, son still in the nest. I am working on my Master's degree in painting. I have a bachelors in digital animation. I have taken time off school to work on building a nest egg, becoming debt free, to start my own dream farm in the future. My dream is to move back to take care of my mom and live off the land in WV, and build an off grid cabin and start a small farm, with chickens, rabbits, goats, cow, fruit trees, and a large veg garden. I just started learning to ferment my own vegetables this week, I made my own yogurt, kombucha, and kefir water sodas this week too. I love to draw, paint, sew, knit, crochet, embroider, and just about every other craft imaginable. I hope to learn to weave and spin my own fiber in the near future. I am researching cabin building, underground house building and I want to refurbish my own camper in the future too. I can't wait to get to know everyone. I love anything involving how people lived and thrived off the land in the past. |
