Hey all - I can't even tell you how long it's been since I've posted in here, but I miss my farmgirl time! For those who don't know me, I'm Amy from MN. We moved to our 5 acre farm with a beautiful red barn (circa 1918) in 2011. I have two boys (11 and 12) who I homeschool. I'm also an author. Hubby works in law enforcement. I enjoy all things farm/simple living/old fashioned. We've had lots of different animals here - just sold our horses and goats - currently have chickens (layers and meat), pigs coming again in a couple weeks. Hoping to raise up some pheasants this year. Next year hoping to raise a lil' beef for ourselves. Huge garden with a lil' field of sweet corn. I'm kinda like Ma Ingalls...with a glass of wine. ;)

I have indeed always homeschooled, and plan to continue. MOST days I love it... and then there are days where I am ready to pull all my hair out and SAY I'm going to put them in public school. My hubby humors me and says "uh huh" and smiles while I rant... then we keep right on going ;) I have a BAD habit of trying to do too much! I keep saying one day I'll learn.... but I never seem to actually do it, lol. Next year my 3 yo will be starting a PreK curriculum.... and I am seriously debating doing "something" with my 1 yo (she'll be 2 in June). I was debating BFIAR as I have used it before, but I always add so much that I get overwhelmed!

Welcome back Amy! I just came back from a long time away from the forum too. We homeschooled all of our children too. Youngest is 27 so it has been a while. My oldest homeschools her 3 now. So glad you are back!

Amy! I am so very glad you are back. I have missed you. Hope you can plan on joining us at April's house in May for Jubilee. What kind of pigs are you getting? We had Hampshires when I was on the farm. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes!Sara - I have written a couple books about homeschooling and I also write fiction under another name. I have a few different projects I'm working on right now. :) Shannon - there are tough days in homeschooling and days that are awesome and lots of other days in between. :) Amy, nice to meet you! - I prefer a really dry wine. I'm not sure what Ma Ingalls would have liked. ;) Denise - nice to "see" you again. Glad to be here again. Surely did miss the forum! Bonnie - missed you, too! We've had a few different kinds of pigs here, my favorites so far have been the Red Wattles. The ones we're getting in May, I'm not sure on the breed - a mix of two and I can't remember off the top of my head. I'm still talking with hubby about Jubilee...cross your fingers!

Hi Amy! I never "met" you before either, but I'm glad you're back now! I also homeschool my kids (boy, boy, girl, 7, 6 and 3). Like Shannon said, I love it most days! Personally, I see Ma Ingalls as a sweet wine girl, but I love the description. :) I have a couple of friends that come over every Friday night to make wine. We've been doing that for two and a half years. I also prefer dry, dry red, to be more specific, but we all have varying tastes so we have a pretty diverse selection. Last year we made dandelion wine, and we should be able to open that in about a month. I've never tried it before so I'm pretty excited about that. Anyway I'm glad you're back, you're farm sounds lovely, and I can't wait to get to know you better! :)

Hi Amy! I'm new here so we haven't met. Sounds like we have a lot in common. I've homeschooled, am an author (busy submitting my first book and working on the 2nd), and am totally the Ma Ingalls type, minus the wine. :) Hope to hear more from you.

Hi Erin! We only tried to make wine twice - once was apple, and I don't know WHAT it actually turned into but it could have set the house on fire. It was insanely potent. And another time we tried making it with grapes and it was WAY too sweet for my taste. I could probably learn a lot from you! Hello Wanda - nice to meet you, what's your first book about? :)

Amy, honestly we use kits a lot. We have made some from scratch. Every year we go to South Haven Michigan and pick blueberries, and we always make 5 or 6 gallons from that. This year we attempted to make some from apple cider, but the jury is still out on whether or not to bottle it or pitch it. It seriously smells awful! It's just a fun thing to do with friends :)

Erin - Maybe a kit is the way to go! And I had to giggle about the blueberry wine - blueberry is the ONLY kind I can't drink. It always makes me sick. :( I think that's really neat that you do that with friends!

Amy - The book I'm submitting now is a middle grade novel written from the viewpoint of a young southern girl in 1953, based on a portion of my early life. But, since I wanted it to help youth grow in understanding and compassion for others while seeing that they can survive difficulties in their own lives in a strong and healthy way, it wouldn't work as a memoir.
After the deaths of her mother and only brother she believes her daddy will die if she lets him out of her sight. Daddy leaves her with poor grandparents. Angry, confused, and struggling with grief, she reaches out to the people in her small world, including crippled Corine, a black “throw away” girl, and a motherless teen whose porch sports a red light at night... Lots of life lessons, some real, some stepped out of thin air and onto the pages and fit perfectly. The author I worked with had many great things to say about it, so I'm hopeful. But, since vampires, etc. seem to be the thing, I just have to find the right agent who knows just the right place to go with it.
As I wrote this, something odd struck me. The working title of the book is...Sis. :)

Grace - will you drink wine from a mason jar? That's all I seem to have clean right now. Wanda - your book sounds interesting! Good luck with it, and if you want to talk more about writing/publishing feel free to send me a message. :)
