04/20/18: I AM CRYING!!!! We have had horrible winds the last week or so. Last night there were gusts so strong and awful that they COMPLETELY UPROOTED THIS BIG BEAUTIFUL SPRUCE TREE!!! I was making my breakfast, looked out my kitchen window and saw that it was laying down. UPROOTED!!!!
A stunningly gorgeous 30 foot tall Colorado Blue Spruce. My "miracle" tree is GONE!
I know it's "just a tree" but . . . .
Thanks for letting me cry on your shoulders!
CJ

It was at the end of our driveway and enjoyed by our neighbors as well . . . gone!
By the way: It had "healed" itself from the lopping by the top branches all turning upward and making it look like a real tree again. I thought that was an amazing way to heal!!

My hubby started chopping the branches off and we dragged them another area. The tree is so big and heavy we wouldn't be able to drag it anywhere without taking limbs off. So sad!!
*****************************************************************

Look at what the tree trimming guys did to our Colorado Blue Spruce tree at the end of our driveway! They said they would just take the "tip" off (power line clearance, hired by the power company). And the power line is not directly over the tree even though it appears so in the one photo. I was in Arizona at my daughter's and my hubby was not home when they came and did this. My hubby said he would have NOT ALLOWED this.
Absolutely unncessary!

This tree, as a seedling, survived our devastating fire in 1994 and grew into this beautiful, perfectly shaped tree! I know it'll grow new growth, but it'll never be the same!
I just want to spit nails!
CJ

Asiyah, I've actually been thinking about that possibility. I think we can and I'll discuss with hubby. Some "shaping" would help!

It was very noticeable as I drove up the hill to my house and, yes, I shrieked! My hubby felt really bad because they came while he was not home and couldn't do anything about it!

Oh CJ...I am horrified!!! That was the most beautiful tree and I know your history with it and I would have just
sat down and bawled my head off!!! That was no little..."just take the tip off" job at all. Oh, my goodness I
just can't believe it!!! I am sooooooooooooo sorry!!!! I don't even know what to say...it is just so awful.

I will pray for good quick growth for it...and healing for your heart.

Hugs,
Peggy

Oh CJ, So sorry about your beautiful tree. The power line guys in Minneapolis and St. Paul do the same thing. We can't do anything about it but cry. All our boulevard trees are ash and we now have the ash borer here so they are cutting them all down. They got to 60 feet and were beautiful. Cry again. I truly sympathize.

Just a few minutes ago I saw their truck go up the road. Told my hubby I wanted to go catch up to them and RATTLE THEIR CAGE, BOX THEIR EARS and GIVE THEM A PIECE OF MY MIND! However, I don't have the energy for it and it won't actually help the situation. We are not out to get anyone . . . we'll probably just work on shaping it.

I know it's "just a tree" . . . but it survived our horrible fire in July 1994. It was only about 2 feet tall and was burned badly. We left it until the next spring, my hubby trimmed off the burned branches and it grew into something spectacular! We lost our house, everything in it and all the trees that grew naturally around it in that fire. So, it's been a challenge to get some trees growing on our place. This tree was the only one that survived and we didn't think it would make it.
We do have other trees that we've planted but they were after the fire.
Anyway, thanks for listening and understanding!

OMG!, Cj, I know how you feel...
Can you "shave it" like they do at the Christmas tree farms, starting at the top and gentle fanning out as you shear downward?

Oh, noooo CJ! Powerline tree trimmers are the absolute worst of all forms of terrible tree hackers in my book. Sometimes I think they get paid by the amount of wood chips they dump out of their truck at the end of the day. They just don't have any sensitivity or common sense at all. I'm so sorry about your tree. She has such a wonderful story of survival.....but will surely survive this most recent topping too. Just an idea for moving on....could you put up a sign on or near the tree saying "owner will maintain" and maybe even an explanation of her significance so they don't do it again?

Cheers! ~ Marilyn
