Here's the performance of "Farmgirl at Heart" as sung in our local co-op. The young woman who sang it came down with a cold the morning of. But still she did a darn good job. Brian Gill, the gentleman singing with her, wrote it as a surprise for Carol and me. Somewhere I have the words written down. Will try to find them!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZHbpcDMCdI&feature=youtu.be

Patsy, from our Coeur d'Alene store, is a wonderfully talented musician and has kindly provided a chord chart for the Farmgirl at Heart song. She says, "I put it in the same key as they play it on YouTube, but they use a capo, so if people want to play it with the video, they'll have to capo it up one fret." If you're a farmgirl at heart, play along!

Here's a PDF of the chord chart.
--> Download it here <--

Here are the words:

Farmgirl at Heart
by Brian Gill

I love to see the hills gold and green,
Blossoms on the cherry trees,
I love to watch the wheat fields blowin’
Like an ocean in a warm summer breeze.

Just like my mother before me
And like her momma right from the start,
I’m a farmgirl,
A farmgirl at heart.

Mother Earth, she’s a woman,
She’s the giving kind,
Just tickle her with a hoe, plant some seeds,
She’ll feed you, just give her a little time.

Just like my father before me
And like his momma right from the start,
I’m a farmgirl,
A farmgirl at heart.

There’s a new sun rising,
People comin’ back to the land.
Times are hard enough for the family farmer,
If you can, won’t you lend a hand?

Buy local, buy organic,
It’s the only way to go.
Help the young folks get back to the land,
Teach ’em how to eat right and how to grow.

Some people call me old fashioned,
I’ve been this way right from the start.
I’m a farmgirl,
A farmgirl at heart.

There’s a new day dawnin’,
People searchin’ for a simpler time.
They’re tryin’ to get back to the land,
And find a little peace of mind.

Grandma’s apron shilly shally,
I love that country charm,
There’s no place that I’d rather be
than right here on my daddy’s farm.

And now my daughter informs me,
That like her momma right from the start,
She’s a farmgirl,
A farmgirl at heart.

I’m a farmgirl,
A farmgirl at heart.

Did anyone get a shiver down their spine when listening to that song? I did! And Alystaire started singing at the end! Now it's gloriously stuck in my head! I'm all for making that the Jubilee anthem! These ideas are so exciting! I'm going to start a binder with ideas here! Time to start working on my badges and getting over these prolonged "baby blues!" Thanks, Sisters! Time to roll up my sleeves!

Jubilee Sisters, the song we're all thinking could work for a theme song took on new meaning this weekend.

The creator of it, Brian Gill, died of throat cancer this past weekend. From his hospital bed in Chicago, friends from Moscow were able to send email messages that the nurses printed up and read to him as the meassages came in.

Carol, who plays a ukulele and is part of Moscow's music scene told him all about our recent enthusiasm for his song, the words, our idea for a Jubilee.

Keep in mind that the song was his idea entirely, a surprise for Carol and me. In fact, before the performance at the co-op (video I posted earlier in this thread), he wanted to sing it to me first in private so we dashed into the women's restroom, a friend keeping watch by the door, where he belted it out, guitar in hand (BTW, the acoustics in a public restroom are fabulous).

He'd left Moscow for Chicago in the last year to take care of a fellow musician who was dying of cancer. Little did any of us know, he was also going to Chicago for the same reason.

Brian was a huge fan of Pete Seeger. Carol said he knew everything about Pete's history, all of his songs by heart, collected videos of his performances, etc. Before Brian died, he was able to spend an entire afternoon jamming with Pete.

Oh, MaryJane... I am so sorry! What a dear, sweet man to have given such a heartfelt gift to you and Carol - and, ultimately, to all of us farmgirls! Such a blessing. I'm so happy to know that Mr. Gill knew the profound effect his song has had on all of our hearts, and that it will become the anthem of MaryJane's Farmgirls across America. That must have brought him great joy, indeed. God bless and comfort the hearts of his family and loved ones through this most difficult time. And God bless his soul with the greatest joy as he jams with the Angels above!

You know, I'm simply amazed by the way everything is just coming together for the Jubilee, and how Mr. Gill created his song long before any of this was in motion. 'Sounds very much like Divine Providence to me! :) I think God is smiling on you, sister! I know all of US are! :)

CJ - I think I'm going to tie my two red collage aprons together (so colors are prominent on BOTH sides) and fly them as my flag, for sure! Long may they wave, my friend! Long may they wave!

Hugs -

Nini

I am so sorry to hear about the death of Brian Gill. It sounds like he was able to leave this life being with people and song that filled his life with memories and love. All of the connections of Brian to you and Carol makes his song the most perfect music for our upcoming Jubilee!

I read the first post about the song and immediately went to the link to watch it. So precious! I've got the words in my head now....Farmgirl at heart...

I came back here to read the rest of the posts and was shocked at the news of Brian Gill's passing. Oh my! My heart hearts for y'all's loss of such a dear friend. What a precious gift he has left for you and for all of us here at MJ's Farm. Through this song, his special fondness for you lives on and we get to share in it.

Music is the soundtrack to our lives.

Anyone else notice how catchy the tune to our song is? I've been humming, whistling, and singing it for almost a week now. Whistle while you work, right? So far, my cows haven't gotten tired of and neither have I!

It's great! Mary Jane, do you know if there is any printed music to it . . . even if it's handwritten notes on a staff?

We're this close to having the chords written down. It is a catchy tune, isn't it? I have it permanently in my head also and sing it to my cows. The woman who said she could come up with the chords canceled today for a couple of days because she has morning sickness.

I'll download it and give it a try on the piano. I know it's guitar chords but I do know my chord structure!

This song is everything a song should be! Memorable, truthful, thought-provoking, and goes right to your heart. I'm saddened to hear of the songwriters passing. As I always like to think, it means another wonderful addition to heavens Angel band.
