Last Sept my dog Daisy died and I just found out yesterday that our other dog Oliver is sick. We took him to the vet because he was limping, only to find out he has cancer in his leg, chest, and his kidneys are failing. His liver is enlarged and he has blood in his urine. He's lost weight. We thought we at least had a couple of years left with Oliver. The vet says he has months to live. If he continues to refuse food and doesnt move, who knows how long he really has. I just can't believe that this is happening. Ollie won't eat. I just made him special food and he walked away.
As much as I've tried, I'm still not over losing Daisy. We are all so devastated.
I can't believe how much this hurts. I'm physically sick.

Oh Connie, my heart breaks for you. It is SO hard to lose "furry children." I'm not sure you ever get over it even when you can say their name and not cry. They give us so much. Please know that I have my arms wrapped tight around you in a big hug. I will send healing energy to Ollie and prayers for your comfort. Joey

I wish there was something I could say that would make things better but I know there's not. I pray for you and your family and an easy passing for Ollie.

We took ollie to the vet this morning because he got worse. He coughed up a little blood this morning, and his gums are turning pale. We thought we were going to have to put him down, but the dr gave him some shots for nausea and breathing, along with some other meds. I don't know if it was better to prolong it, but the dr felt there was no need to put him down. He thinks he has about a week or so left :(
At least with the shot for nausea, he was able to eat a little something since we've been back home.
Thanks everyone for your well wishes. It means a lot.

Morgan, my first dog, died at 12 years old from a cancerous tumor in her abdomen. She went from 60 pounds to 35 and it probably had started a year before I noticed. She had stopped eating her regular food and soon stopped eating wet food. When I took her to the vet, he said she maybe had 3 weeks to live. I had just lost my job so I just stayed with her. When she started coughing, I got a ride to my parent's place. In two days she started shaking and I knew then that the pain was too great for her to handle. I took her on one more walk with her in the woods she loved. She couldn't walk back so I had to carry her. The next day, we took her to the vet and she went quietly and she now has a place in the pet cemetary on my parent's land.
I know the feelings of loss from one pet is fresh and that the impending loss of this pet might be too unbearable for you. My thought is that it is necessary for us to grieve and you will do so. I have found that when a new pet arrives in your home, the sadness of the memories of the previous pets turn to happy memories. I have experienced this. I believe you will experience this also.

Oh Connie! What a pic! I so love a hound dog. So glad Ollie has you and you, him.

So sad to hear about Ollie. My Grace was a beagle and got cancer in her eye. The vet said that she could live perfectly happy with one eye so we had surgery. Then the worst happened-it went to the other eye and then to her brain. This was 5 years ago and I still miss her every day. I think about all of her favorite little quirks and smile. I hope you and Ollie can spend more loving moments like that precious picture.

Connie--I'm so sad this is happening again. Ollie has had a good life and knows you love him and always will. when my Boxer passed I read Kipling's poem "THe Power of the Dog" and that helped a lot. Sending hugs and support from someone who loves dogs. Cindy

Rita how awful about Grace. Yesterday afternoon Ollie seemed back to his normal self. Following me around, begging for food and he ate a lot. it was all surreal. It was like we had our old Ollie back. The shots the dr gave obviously helped. Now this morning he is back to the way he was before we took him to the vet yesterday...lethargic, throwing up and in obvious distress. We did manage to give him some meds, but he has a little grunting going on as if to vocalize his discomfort. I guess the dr is trying to give us more time, but at what cost? I hope the meds kick in and he gets some relief today.
Cindy I will read that poem, thanks.

"At what cost" is up to you sweet lady and I have been in your shoes and know I will be again. Each time I say "no more" and then I realize God has given us such a huge capacity to love and when I look back at the years my little pals have walked with me and my family I know that they have had the best life they could have and in the process we have been so very blessed. All of our hearts walk beside you in this journey dear one. We will pray through our tears as all women have done forever.

We just lost our Shelbee the day after Christmas. We had to make the decision to end her suffering. It is a very hard decision to make. There is nothing that anyone can say to make it easier. I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I literally feel your pain, both physical and emotional. Grieving is hard on us humans. Make sure to take care of yourself through this process.
My prayers are with you and your family.

Connie, the pic of you and Ollie is so precious. The look of love and comfort in his eyes as he gazes into yours tells the whole story. He feels loved and safe. You have given him a full and vibrant life.
I'm praying for you today.

Connie, So So Sorry to hear about Ollie! It does just feel like yesterday when I learned of your Daisy. A few years ago we lost our SWEET rotwieler, Nika, to cancer at age 6. She went totally blind before we took her in to finally be put down. The funny thing is, I tried SOOOO hard to give her a healthy, long life! I made all her food myself (as I'm sure a lot of you do), thinking that would help avoid the cancer 'bug'. Not so. My sweet son, I think he was 8 at the time, made me a small clay sculpture of Nika that I kept on my window sill. Just looking at that sculpture made me feel so much better! It really eased me through the grieving process. Hope you can find something to ease you through the grieving process as well. Sending love and hugs to you!
