My daughter received this letter last week.

"I wonder if there would be a way for MaryJane to add her Raising Jane blog to the chatroom? So many farmgirls say they wished there were more posts from her like on "News from the Farm." I can only imagine how super busy she is!!! The majority of us check the chatroom every day. It would be nice to have a place to click and go right to her daily posts and photos every day. I will read 5 days of her blog at a time because I don't go to my e-mail for days! But, I go to the MJF chatroom every day!!"
-Connie Warren

Thanks for asking Connie. It does feel like with all the various social media things going on, I remind myself of my chickens sometimes—over here, no, over here! I'm happy to share my daily blog here and hope you and the others enjoy it. Again, thanks! Here's today's post and photo-of-the-day.

1/20/2015 With the holidays fading fast in our rearview mirrors, we find ourselves in the wide open expanse of …

midwinter.

About this time of year, we start counting the days until spring and wondering how the rugged residents of far northern latitudes do it. How can they keep their chins up with months more until thaw and precious little daylight in which to weather the harshest of seasons?

They must have a secret. In fact, they do … http://bit.ly/1yGfDAV

Oh, I am so glad Connie asked about this. I do tend to forget to switch over to the blog (although it is always great to play catch up!), and this way, I won't miss anything! Thank you, Connie! And thank you, MaryJane! Hugs - Nini

1/22/2015 (Meg) In the midst of what seems like almost-daily bad news, I was recently touched to hear a feel-good story about a dog who rides public transit in Seattle all by herself in order get to the dog park.

Does the age-old phrase “country pup vs. city pup” still hold true?? Haha. Our golden retriever wouldn’t know what to do with public transit, but he’ll happily hop right up into the bed of a pickup. Hmmm, maybe he could fake it like I do when I make a trip to the city? http://bit.ly/1AUhIEk

1/23/2015 With flu season upon us I decided it was time to dig out my recipe for homemade Ginger Ale. Let’s hope you enjoy it because it is yummy, and not because you’ve caught the yucky. Here’s the recipe: http://bit.ly/1zDFtFs

1/24/2015(Meg) Just before the holidays, Mom and I snuck off to the big city for a couple of meetings and some Mom/Daughter time. The city was bustling as usual, but the holiday cheer was an experience in its own … http://bit.ly/1zGCBHL

We always love our time there. I had several of those wonderful unexpected humanity moments common in NYC. For example, one rainy night I passed a young father struggling to keep ahold of his little boy's hand while managing a large Christmas tree on his shoulder. The tip kept hitting and dragging on the ground so a woman (in a fur coat) grabbed the top and started walking with them. Wish I'd had my camera.

We have always experienced a little "Southern Hospitality" in NYC! LOL! For me, There is no other " American City" that puts all your senses into "Overload" as soon as you step out onto the sidewalk!

(Stella Jane) We finally had a good snow day and spent the day at the farm. By the second run, the cows came around to see what all the fuss was all about. I have a couple videos of our sledding adventure on Raising Jane: http://bit.ly/1CHGyMl

1/26/2015 Moo News:

(Meg) It’s no secret that here at the farm, cows are our favorite critters. And I think it’s a no-brainer to those of us who have spent time with our bovine friends that cows regularly talk to each other. With worldwide cattle populations at around 1.3 billion, these ordinary “conversations” are beginning to get noticed, and this has compelled researchers to take a good look at what it means when cows moo.

So, what does a moo mean? I’ll share on Raising Jane: http://bit.ly/1BrZkpj

We don't have many snow days here in Texas, either, Connie. But every so often we have schools closed because of icy roads.
