I have a couple pair of Gingher sewing scissors that I've sent off to Gingher to be sharpened for only $8 each.

Repair Dept.
Forveson Corp.
322-D Edwardia Dr.
Greensboro, NC 27409

But I also have two pair of Singer scissors that need a new edge. We don't have anyone local that can sharpen them. Does anyone know of a place where I can send my Singer scissors for a professional sharpening? I can give them the occasional dust-up but they're due for a good total re-do.

Let me show my lack of scissor knowledge; I had no idea that scissors had to be sent back to the manufacturer for sharpening. Just thought anyone who knew how could and should do it.

Oh, for the days when the scissor man came by and sharpened scissors, knives, shovels, or whatever needed a keen edge while we waited. I remember his honing wheel and other methods of sharpening.

I take my scissors to the local fabric store and they send them out to be sharpened. Someone at a hardware store should be able to do it also.

Thanks girls! I will try my local JoAnn's. A few years ago, I took a pair to an local elderly man who sharpened them in his shop but they came back almost unusable. It was as if he just put them on a grinder like you would a shovel or something and the tip on one of the blades was completely ground off. Ouch. I never said anything but thought this time I'd be careful who I took them to.

Yes, wouldn't a traveling tool sharpener be grand! There was a time that in every small town in America you could hear the sound of an anvil at work.

We actually have a guy, Bob, down here in the Houston area that travels to all the farmer's markets and he'll sharpen items on the spot. He has a cute little van and is the sweetest guy. At one time he had several vans with trained workers and he was looking to franchise out.

Thanks Sherone! I think I will give him a call to see if I can send them to him.

Mary Jane,
My hubby is a knife maker and a total expert at sharpening anything, including scissors. I've had him sharpen my dressmaking scissors.

Thanks CJ. I just got my box of sharpened scissors back from Lyle, who Sherone recommended. He did a fabulous job. Now I have all of them (a dozen or so) ready to go! It's a good day when all your scissors are sharp at the same time:)

There's nothing like sharp scissors and knives! As you can well imagine, the knives in our kitchen are sharp! We just visited our daughter and, of course, hubby sharpened all of her knives! She also sent home some scissors for him to sharpen!

That reminds me of my dad, whenever he visited, he oiled everything, door hinges, treadle machines, bikes, etc. and sharpened everything, even my axes, shovels, and hoes.

Oh Wowzers! Good to know that Ginghers will re-sharpen their scissors for only$8

And to see that there are several other resources (here) to access.

I have a pair of Ginghers -pinking shears, that are in need of sharpening... I just had not had good luck in the years past.

Thanx for the info.

Great topic! Thanks for sharing. Nothing like having a sharp scissors. I have needed my Ginghers sharpened for some time and have been very leery of even having them sharpened locally. I was really disappointed when I had a sewing machine fixed once and it came back really overoiled and still didn't work right.
