Yep....they are calling for rain with possibility of snow showers this evening and tomorrow and here it is October 3rd!

I have never experienced a winter like we had in the Great North Woods last year in my entire time in the UP of Michigan. An anomaly occurred that I've never witnessed before it was called Winter Burn-every shrub within miles and miles of the UP was either completely scorched or suffered severe damage due to the extreme cold and record breaking temperatures. All spring and throughout the summer you saw beautiful shrubs exhibiting a rusty brown burned appearance. Shocking. We also had HUGE ice shoves about 2 blocks from my house as tall as mature trees which caused an excessive amount of damage.

Our planet is surely changing and today I'm wondering why we live here where the summers are so very short; the winters are so incredibly cold and long then I bring myself back and recall the beauty that surrounds me in this magical place I call home.

We had snow showers today Mel. Hope it is not a sign of another very long, cold winter like last year.

You gals sure must be made of tough stuff. We get snow but more cold than snow. We use to get snow in upstate NY starting around the end of October when I was growing up there but here sometimes we don't see it till Jan or Feb, except for last year where we had it in November. The picture is beautiful there Melody!

I'm waving at you Mel. Yes, last winter sure kicked our butts. I would gain 20 lbs. each morning just getting dressed to do chores. We are fine here, getting ready to start soybean harvest in a few days, so the rush is on.

Big Hugs

Snow showers Julie and Melody? I can't even imagine. I am here in southern Vermont and it is lovely Fall everywhere but nothing lower than the upper 40s at night. I do wonder what the Winter will be like in the upcoming months for our upper tier states.

Hi girls! We actually had freezing rain here today, and my son and hubby were working on a roof of a new office building in another county IN THE SNOW!!! Can you believe it?! Thankfully, the snow didn't stick, but my son got a good chill in his bones and has been sniffling and has super red cheeks... Time for homemade chicken soup! Hugs - Nini

It is very chilly here in Wisconsin- misty rain so far...but the weather people are calling for snow later tonight. Putting another layer of clothes on. And...Oh Yes last year was very brutal!!

Hey Nini, if your making homemade chicken soup, can I come for supper? I just made apple crisp I can bring to share! Sounds like a great way to warm up.

Cooler temps here lately, cooler than normal for this time of year. Our mountains all have snow on them . . can see it on the La Platas east of here from my kitchen window!
My tomato plants got frosted on Wednesday night . . . oh well!

Hi Ladies!
Had a dusting of snow here a few days ago but melted quickly! A reminder of what's coming!
Maybe will have snow but NO wind this winter....now that would be a miracle!
I know how you feel Julie with piling on the clothes doing chores! Let's just say, this old lady isn't in the running to win any beauty contest going to check livestock during the night! LOL

Ladies, being from my part of TX I can't image that much snow or how low the temp can get. We get more ice than snow here along the Red River. Snow is always welcomed but not the ice. I would have to go to west TX or the panhandle to see some of what y'all get.

I was just saying this morning that it is time to haul out the winter clothes. Usually when I do that I can be sure of a warm up in temps as we come into our indian summer. But I never know for sure.
Chicken soup and apple crisp now that sounds like a great warm up meal!

It got cold enough today and yesterday to put on the wood stove. It's supposed to warm up more this week. We had snow in October once...it was awful! Broke so many trees because they still had leaves. A friend told me she had snow in Illinois too. Stay warm, everyone!

Nothing out of the ordinary here, except maybe less rain?! Expecting rain next week though! We had snow last winter and it wasn't too bad (except me getting the truck stuck!!!! LOL!!!). I am hoping for a white Christmas!

It is snowing so hard I cannot see my truck in the yard. Glad I got everything out of the garden. It is 35 degrees and the house is nice and toasty. Does this mean it is now winter. If so great I am so ready.

You girls can keep your SNOW!!! We only get a week or two of it here in Vancouver, WA
and that is quite enough for this girl.

We are still having a gorgeous Indian Summer here (even though it is officially fall).

We were at the Oregon Coast last weekend with 85 degree days and sunny and bright.

The nights are cooling down nicely but the days are abnormally warm for this time of year.

Hugs and Smiles,
Peggy

Very rainy day today . . . I'm on the Western Slope of Colorado on the other side of the Rockies from Marilyn (mountain mama). I'm sure that the mountain peaks got snow today!

We've been running our pellet stove for about an hour in the mornings for the last week. Today it got lit at 5:00 PM . . . cloudy, rainy and chilly day!
