Check this blog and then I thought perhaps we could all mail our own to the address that takes them and mails them out or sends them with a mission person. They are so easy to make and I have a bunch of extra fabric so I thought I would just make them from fabric and her them myself like a pillowcase. Just thought I would ask if anyone would like to join it to use up some of your fabric??

Thanks for sharing this Beverley. It doesn't seem difficult and I would like to try it also.

I always wanted to try these dresses. We have a store that sells 2 pillow cases for $2.99. Maybe I can have our church do some. Thanks for posting this. Our pastor just came back from Africa this summer.

I do these when I have time. I find lots of fabric on the clearance table or from other farm girls and when I have a box full I mail them to Nancy's Notions for distribution. I have also sent some with friends from our church who did a mission trip in Haiti. They are super simple to do and don't take much time. If you go to Nancy's notions web page she has a pattern measurements for a variety of sizes. She also has a pattern for boys shorts which are also in need. Such a great cause.

I agree with how fast the dresses work up. I add lace, buttons or whatever as long as it's flat so it doesn't interfere with the mail. We're allowed to add a pocket with a little book or something flat. Our local thrift store collects cloth & little bits to help out...maybe yours will do the same. I'll look up the boy's shorts. Sounds good! Judy

Beverley - that would be such a blessing to many! I have been on mission trips to Malawi, Africa - (unfortunately I've been unable to go the last few years due to medical issues... but others from my "team" just came back the other day.) To see first hand how much these items are needed and very appreciated by those receiving - well, it's just very heartbreaking and humbling. I have thousands of photos, but here is a picture of Chifurniro, we have raised enough money for her to come to the United States and have the surgery she so desperately needs (as you can see her knees bend backwards... it is going to take a few surgeries and lots of therapy but the doctors feel they can do a great deal for her) The second - is an elderly lady from way out in the "bush"... this picture has always just left me speechless. - Many Blessings to you all for making things and sending them to third world countries (and well, let me correct myself and say - not only 3rd world countries, but anywhere!...)- it really does make a difference!

The place that is doing this is here in Michigan and right around where I grew up, so when I saw the address I just could not help. I will go to nancys notions and get the shorts pattern too. thank you for that info. I have a day off so I am going to spend it sewing these. thanks for anyone who wants to make some and send them to the address at the web site. I figure any amount will help. so, even if you can only make one that is still great!!! Thanks for any help that anyone can do.

Beverly, thanks for the info. I'm going to do this.
Julie, thanks for the info on the boys' shorts. Gonna do that, too.
Michele, incredible pictures!

Also saw there was a need for girls sanitary products. She has a pattern for that as well and what a great way to use those old towels you have laying around. I had never thought of how difficult it must be for not only young girls at this time in there lives, but all women in these countries. Just read an article on how much school these girls miss because of the natural cycle of our bodies, but many quit school because of it.
Hugs Julie
