You'd certainly be welcome Joyce if you found yourself in the area (you other girls too). The Ingalls Homestead puts on a pagent of one of her books every summer (weekends in July and August) outdoors. People bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on... quite a few will bring a picnic supper and eat during the show. Both the Homestead and the Laura Ingalls Wilder Foundation (of the Ingalls homes and schoolhouse in the books) have tours. My boys have been on the Homes tour twice (we took my dad, step mom and grandmother back in October 2010), Anna once when we went with a homeschool group to both places last Fall. Boys got to drive a wagon with a team of draft horses, and Anna drove a miniature pony cart... she's been horse crazy ever since! Me and the other moms were completely fascinated with the old textbooks at the schoolhouse on the Homestead... would love to get hold of copies of those old books. For $50/night, you can even camp out in a covered wagon! I'm hoping to do that with the kids in the future.
There is another Laura Ingalls Wilder historical site in Mansfield, Missouri... not far from where I went to college just outside Branson. Everything in her house there is tiny as she was not very tall.

Not too much right now... we were making binders, but I never heard any more about it after January. Probably everyone is busy getting gardens ready, and all that. That's what we're doing anyway! :)
Joyce, did you ever get my letter? I just want to make sure it got there ok :)

I did use that blog as a sort of jumping off point. I posted pictures of mine in the Poor House thread under Gathered Up. Daizy talked about it there a little bit at the beginning of the year.

Poor House thread? Wonder if I have to be accepted before I can view that. I sent Mss Daizy a message, so hopefully I will hear from her soon. I think I all go ahead and start a binder this week. Has there been any projects since that one or is everyone still working on that one?

I don't think so Shannon - Daizy had suggested we bake a loaf of bread and put an apron around it and give it away...I did that a while ago, but I was the only one that did it as far as I know...I'd love to do some more projects - especially with Earth Day around the corner!! Erin - I don't recall seeing those pictures at all! I will go back and search :) Your letter is going out today! I just got it on the weekend :D

Oh i like that idea and will do that in the next couple weeks. Can anyone else suggest a project or just Daizy? Did you have any ideas Joyce, for Earth Day?

I actually have no idea Shannon!! I think perhaps we should sew or buy a cloth bag, fill it with useful things like homemade soap (perhaps we can buy it if you can't make it), green products such as cleaners, homemade cloths etc. and give it to someone as a gift, along with the special MaryJane Farm card that we got when we joined the chapter....but I have no idea if that even sounds good or fun :)

Joyce - I found it!!!! It is under "Gathered Up - Poor House Farmgirls" I love how Erin made hers look! And I love your idea for the Earth Day project... that could probably go towards earning the "Going Green/Cleaning" badge as well (ummm yeah - I do not remember the actual name!). I think I will start working on that next week, once I get my binder set up. I'm trying to do a project a week... we'll see if I can keep up the pace, though I'm sure some rejects will overlap and take longer than a week!

OK - I'm SO confused!!! Where do we post things? I searched the forum that Shannon was talking about, and saw people have been posting there - so I subscribed to that - but I'm super confused still - are we suppose to be chatting there or here? Am I missing something? Thank you so much for your help in advance!!

Joyce, it kind of seems like we have threads scattered around a few places... There's one in Gathered Up, one in Farmgirl Barter too, but I think that one isn't very active. From now on I think I'll just post in this thread, and the official Henhouse. Thanks for the compliment about the binder, Shannon! :)

Welcome Shannon, we are glad to have you. What have you been up to this spring?
We are finally getting going on our garden. Planted lettuce, onions, garlic, bush beans and a few carrots last night (as I thought it was going to rain.) Today, I got some of the boards painted for the 3 new raised beds we are adding this year. One of my kids' mama rabbits had a litter of babies about a week ago (Jewel has 6 lovely kits) and our dog now has morning sickness (Karen is due the last week of May with her litter of Toy Aussie puppies... hopefully some nice service dog prospects in the litter as both parents have good temperament for that... My oldest son has autism and we raise service dogs to give back to special needs families.) I am so excited to have earned my first 3 merit badges last week... cake decorating, cheese making, and animal farming beginner levels. Working on a knitting badge, aprons and embroidery.

thanks, but I haven't been added yet :) I'm hoping Daizy will have the opportunity to add me soon. I'm still a guest on here, right now :)
Glad to hear you were able to start your garden. Ours is going quite well, though I still need to get more peppers in the garden. Tomorrow after grocery shopping, I need to cover my potatoes more... they are growing like crazy! This is the first year we have tried growing potatoes.... I am really hoping they will be productive.
I love that you are raising dogs for special needs children. My oldest son is borderline autistic and aspergers... is certainly keeps life... errrr.... interesting!
I think I've only earned two badges so far. I know I could earn more... I just have been slow... or lazy, depending on how you look at it ;)

Rebecca, it sounds like you have your hands full! Can you send me a PM please? I sent you an email a while ago. Thanks :)
Shannon, I don't think I would say lazy at all! You have quite a few children your homeschooling, which alone can eat up your day, not to mention all of the rest of life! I just pulled out my binder yesterday to see which badges I could knock out soon. There are quite a few I already qualify for, I just need to take a picture and submit them. I'm sure it's the same way with you. :)

Hay there, Mz Diane,
Most of our chapter members are in the same boat as you....busy schedules.....or we are just too rural to have enough girls in our areas. At any rate, you are welcome to come and join our Virtual Chapter. I will get you connected and I hope you enjoy hanging out with us. You can do as little or as much as you desire.
Welcome!
