All 12 stopped laying like overnight. I have searched all over for a new nest site nothing. They only thing that has changed is the heat. Any ideas.

most likely you have an egg eater...either a hen or two, a predator, a rodent, even snakes will eat eggs...

Diana, I hope your girls have started laying over the past week since you posted this.
There are a few things that could have sent their bodies into a non-laying state.
...a predator could've spooked them
...a change of feed
...a change of water
...temperature change
I think you pegged it when you mentioned the heat. My chickens will stop laying when temps spike more than 5-10 degrees. Sadly, down here by the Gulf Coast we start off the day in the 80's and hit 100 by 3:00pm. August is usually the hardest month on my chickens due to the heat. Then I get another couple good months of eggs and then molting season starts and there go my eggs again!

Mine have slowed way down since molting. Just as Catherine said it is hot. I am in east Texas, about 1 1/2 hours from Houston. I just recently bought some dried mealworms to help with protein while they are molting During the winter we keep a light on them for more daylight hours since days are short.

We got a spike in heat too. One of my girls only lays now an egg every other day. I'm thinking it's the heat too.

When they're not laying, I fuss at my girls and tell them I do not like having to buy eggs at the store...that's what they're here for.
