We just switched to using well water for large garden, but water is hard in our area. I am nervous about damage to plants over time. Any ideas about possible non-toxic ways to combat mineral deposits in our soil?

Hi, there, Marianne - welcome to the 'Connection! Our water is hard as a rock, so to speak, here, too - and I've never even thought about the impact of mineral deposits!!! Good question! I'll bet the gals who frequent the "Garden Gate" might have some insight for us - you might want to post your question there. Also - check out the "Welcome Wagon" section and introduce yourself so we can give you a proper farmgirl welcome!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Hi Marianne,

We have well water with lots of floride and calcium and I haven't noticed any damage to plants. But I would be curious to know if anyone else has problems. We strictly use well water for our animals I know that is better for them then community water systems.
Good Luck

Heidi

I've used well water the majority of my life (almost 50 years). The only time I don't like using it is for washing dishes or clothes so we've put in a water softner for that.

I prefer using well water for everything else.

Hi,
My name is Marianne also. I lived in SanAntonio for 5 years. I don't think hard water has any effect on the plants. I would call your local cooperative extension, they are pretty active in Texas.
