My question today is: What does home mean to you? The definition of home is Be it ever so humble , its more than just a place. It's also an idea-One where the heart is! To me our homes are more than financial assets. My home has deep emotional meaning. It is the back drop of my memories. The place we played and argued and hung our Children's art work and marked the door jam with pencil lines as they grew taller. For better or worse the home of our childhoods represented to many of us a good measure of the success our parents had attained, an outward expression of how hard work had paid off in comfort and safety and the respect of the community. The lawn got cut. The paint got freshened up. Maybe a porch or pool got added out back when things went well, our house grew with us. Home represents security and safety for most people. This is my place where I can close the door on chaos, and find some kind of peace, selflessness, assurance of purpose. "This is mine; here I belong" The meaning of home, is often connected with comfort, relationships, family, relatives, friends and the traditional rituals that give meaning to our lives. This is why where I live means so much to me. As I watch my Grandchildren step into my home each step brings more laughter and growth into my home. My home has an everlasting memory in my heart. My home has my heart and soul in it. There's no amount of money that can replace that. So what does your home mean to you?

Dorinda, lovely written and I love the idea. So the meaning of my home is were there is love, hardships, laughter. Where my hubby and I raised our children. Home is were my family feels safe, loved and they know that they and their friends are always welcome. When my children were growing up we constantly had friends over all the time. Home is were I sewed up my daughters weeding gowns, where we had weeding reception. My home sees my granddaughter growing up hears the laughter of her and displays her artwork just like her mom did at one time along with her siblings. This is my home. Laurie

This is a great question! You both have beautiful ideas of what defines a home.
For me, home is more of a concept than an actual establishment. This is especially true because right now I'm living with my fiance in a rented semi-detached house and it has so many problems. When we moved in we found the previous tenant never cleaned and she let her animals do business everywhere. It kind of irritates me being here. I've done my best to do the place up and make it "pretty" but it still looks shabby. It really looks like students should be living here. I know that this is not *my* house, so I look at it as transitory. My house would be taken care of and I wouldn't leave a hole in the ceiling or let the counter top deteriorate like my landlords have been...
My definition of home is a safe place with the man I love. Wherever it may be, whatever building it might be situated in, it would be clean, artistic and full of life. It would have all things that comfort requires and provide shelter for those I love. Although my current residence is not fit to my standards (coupled with the fact that I don't actually own it) I feel at home. Why? Because of my fiance and my cats. If they weren't here this place would be empty. All of my art supplies, books and blankets could never make it a home without my family.
