| I am new to this forum. I have been reading MaryJane Farm for years,,,I always find new and interesting things in the magazine...My main hobbies are quilting, and gardening, I also can and dehydrate foods and try to buy as much organic as I can, my garden is totally organic I have raised beds. I can crochet but don't have time for it anymore..I am a Grandmother to 10, have 4 grown kids. One pet an 11 year old kitty named Baby. Been married to my soulmate for 48 years. I hope I have posted this correctly...Please tell me if i haven't///look forward to reading about everyone... |

| Hi Beverley, Thank you. I just returned from Mackinaw City yesterday was up there for a week. We love it up there,,,,but the bugs this year were terrible |

Welcome Judi :) We too are big organic people, love to garden, can, and dehydrate :) I would LOVE to learn to crochet better - I've done a couple things, but am still trying to learn :) Praying you are blessed by all the wonderful ladies on this forum - I have learned SOOOOO much from them!!!

Hi Judi! Welcome to the forum. Your gardens sound wonderful. I like to crochet too, but haven't tried my hand at quilting yet. :) I hope to get to know you better!

| Thank you for the nice welcome...Sarah quilting is awesome....once you start you won't be able to stop....I have been quilting for 30 years... I started out hand piecing and hand quilting but have graduated to machine sewing and quilting...I am in the process of making 4 (call me crazy) queen sized Christmas quilts for my kids for Christmas. |

Judi - what a fantastic Christmas gift! My mom does a lot gf quilting... all five of us kids received quilts for graduation presents from HS.... they had blocks embroidered with things from each year of school. She also gives each of the grandchildren baby quilts and then another quilt for Christmas after they have turned three. All of the kids and their spouses also get a quilt for their 10th wedding anniversary. What treasures they each are!!!

Thank you Shannon....I have made my kids each several quilts over the years and all of the grand kids have at least 2...mu daughter started a quilt when she was about b7 or 8...She hated sewing so I finished it (crooked seams and all) and she keeps it on her couch. I also have a trunk full they can divide up when I am gone....
brenda I like it in your area...Ken and I wish we had bought a farm. We thought we were city people. But we garden and pretend we are farmers....no live stock as we like to travel still with our camper/// |

You are absolutely going to love it here and I can tell that you will fit right in. MJF is a wonderful group of ladies and so caring.
Wow, 4 queen sized quilts! You are very ambitious too! I, like Winnie would love to see some photos too! A gal at church is giving me quilting lessons (I have had 2) and am learning how to make Log Cabin squares (my favorite pattern...so far :)). I am enjoying it :)

| I will see if I can load a couple of the blocks here,,,,the quilts consist of 14 blocks each most of it is applique which i do by machine,,,,seem not to be working I will try to get photos as soon as I can get this to work... |

Hi Judi... Welcome to the group! I'm in Michigan also, just south of Detroit. One day I would love to learn to quilt... but I would have to put down the hook and needles to do that. LOL! Hi ladies,
Looks like we have several Michiganders in this group. I'm from Midland, Michigan. I have posted several times myself but don't have the hang of posting yet so have remained relatively quiet. My husband and I have goats and chickens. We had cows until recently. I found them forever homes and scaled down because we want to travel when we can and it is hard to ask people to come in and take care of the animals.
Because we have chickens we have not grass. One of the things I need to do is make a fence in the woods so the chickens will leave what used to be our grassy area alone. We have eagles and hawks that fly through regularly so the woods has always been a safe canopy for the chickens. Once the fence is up I hope to plant more grass.
we also garden but the tractor was broke most of the summer so we have been working inside the house more than outside. We babysit for our third granddaughter. I retired from the mental health field and started babysitting the following week. Sloan is now 2 years 8 months and so much fun. My other two granddaughters are 14 and 15 and lived right through the woods until about a month ago. The kids sold the house they built next store about 13 years ago and moved closer to their school. I miss the energy they emitted from that space even though I could not see them over there.
A new family now lives on what used to be family property. It takes some getting used to and I will have to go over soon and welcome them even though I think walking up that driveway to "somebody else's house" will be difficult.
