Is it just me or is anyone else having issues getting on the MJF site,,,w/out get error messages?
The 1st message was something about an error... and then this one..

"Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'
"Script timed out
/snitz/post_info.asp

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools"

and I seem to be having an issue with taking forever to post... I am not a computer smart gal so it could very well be me or my 'puter or my internet... just wondering...

I notice I have a hard time getting on to the topics, don't know if my internet speed is so bad or what but have had trouble the last 6 months so don't go on as often, tired of waiting

I'll let Gabe give you the details but when we experience intense pressure from hackers trying to get in, it bogs things down. The good news? At least our filters and gates keep them out. We continue to pay for all the latest in hacker prevention but their tactics change frequently and then we have to drop everything we're working on and rise to the occasion. Big UGH. I've always wondered what motivates a hacker. Now I know. They perversely enjoy making it difficult for a business to conduct business.

Some ISP (internet service providers) are jacking around with bandwidth (flow of information) speeds because of the net neutrality debate. They will want us all to pay more for more bandwidth (faster flow of information). Comcast and Time Warner, two of the largest ISPs, want to merge and suck more money out of our pockets. Stuff like this will happen off and on for some time until they get the net neutrality issue settled.

Wow! I do know that we see a ton of hits from a foreign country on our Internet logs when we bog down.

I and our ISP have been working to cut out spammers and bots wherever we can. We've also been working to see what else may need improvement or optimization. It's a tough job divining where a problem is originating, when you don't get outright errors.

For whomever's willing, it would be helpful to post here or email me (webmaster@maryjanesfarm.org) about specific times that the chatroom (or our other sites) are performing poorly. (I realize that posting here while there's slowness is, ummm, not likely, but just sometime after the site recovers will be perfect.)

Specifically, it's always helpful to know, first off, that your own actual internet connection is working in general. That can be seen by visiting other sites or doing searches for something new (one way or another making sure it's a fresh page). If those don't work or are slow, then obviously the internet connection in general is slow. Otherwise, just note the time and hopefully even the specific page of ours you were trying to view when the site responded slowly.

I don't like asking that of users and troubleshooting is always an onerous task, but like I said, whomever's willing to report, it would be awesome and most helpful! We certainly want to keep this community together and interacting as effortlessly as possible, so you all can continue making all the great connections you have made.

Thanks for the info, MaryJane! I cannot imagine the job that is required to keep a website up and running!
Hats off to all of you . . . I know Gabe is your tech guy and he probably wants to scream at times.
THANK YOU ALL!

Gabe, big LOL!
I am sort of a spoiled princess... before I retired,,, all I had to do, when my 'puter looked at me crossed eyed,,, was to pick up the phone & call Tech support... they would wave their magic wand and Voila'... I was a happy princess again... lol!

I can not even imagine trying to do what you have to do... and,... I want to Thank you for not giving me "the Look" followed by, "What did you do?"... oh wait, that would be my hubby! lol!

Now that I know,,, I will be sure to contact you... if/when there is a problem.

Hackers and other stinkers make me so mad! Why can't they get jobs like real people! I could go on and on but won't do that to you all.

Thanks Gabe! I actually thought about emailing you, but decided not to bother you with it, knowing you were "on it"! I had checked other websites for speed of connectivity too . . :)
Next time, I'll email you if it seems like a long-running issue
THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO!!!!
CJ

P.S. Just change the pillowcase every once in a while on that pillow . . :D

How has the Connection seemed lately? I got plenty of notices of site unresponsiveness for our main site on particular days. Did any of you see it at all?

And now there's also an email reception issue, though I suspect there's nothing I can do about that.

Anyway, let me know; and off I go.
