I have a TON of family members (let's just say I have 14 siblings alone, not counting all my nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles etc. And then there's my husbands family too!). I would like to make some embroidered tea towels for all the women and some of the men, however, doing that many would add up when most are sold online (plain) for 2 or more dollars each. Does any one know where I could get them by the gross (144) whole sale price?

There is a site that offers a range of flour sack towels with price breaks for large quantities - www.dharmatrading.com You may be able to find them there.

Thanks! It's a great site. Yet, still their smallest ones are still over a dollar each for the largest quanity discount. So keep the links coming. I would really like to be able to get them in the 50 cent each range if at all possible. Like I said, I'm willing to buy at least 144 at a time. So that's a pretty large amount, I would think. I would even really be willing to buy 288 for 50 cents or less each.

Try Ikea - I bought two dozen flour sack towels at the Dallas Ikea in September; I've been embroidering them with old Aunt Martha's iron-on transfers, works beautifully. They are off-white with a plain 1/4-inch wide red band down the long sides, for 0.49 each. If you decide to get them, I'd recommend washing them first before embroidering, as the will shrink up a bit.

Jennifer,
I did a search on Ikea, and found furniture stores; is this right?

...she is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.

Bonnie, it is right. www.ikea.com - On Ikea's site look in Textiles, then Kitchen, then Towels. They look nice, but as I said, they aren't available online. I'm thinking of asking my daughter to pick some up at her store in AZ and send them to me in IN. Seems like sorta the long way around to get towels!

Ladies, sorry I was in a hurry earlier forgot to mention that you can't mail-order a lot of things Ikea carries except the furniture. I hit the store whenever I visit my mom in Dallas & ship a box home, I always find textiles there.

Heather, I only knew about the Ikea by the airport in Newark (my hubby's hometown), didn't know there was also one out on Long Island now which might be more convient for you. Wear trainers and bring a snack, walking through that place is more exhausting than running a 10k.

Kathy,
I don't know where you are in IN, but there is an Ikea store in the Chicago suburbs...I think in Orland Park? I've been there a few times. It's worth the trip!

WOW I didn't know one was on Long Island. I live in Jamaica, Queens, so Long Island would be much better! I will have to find that one! Which city do you know? I go to Levittown a lot, and all over Hempstead Turnpike really, and Westbury.

hmmm, for some reason I can't right off think of where exactly hicksville is, but sounds familiar, I'm sure it's closer then NJ! lol And I am sure I've been there for something.......oh yes just remembered, just had my TOPS Fall Rally there last month! UHG how could I forget! Ok, I know exactly where it is! It's about 20 minutes from me! A nice peaceful drive, unlike the one through Manhattan to get to the one in NJ! lol haha

Kathy in Indiana -- The Ikea in Illinois is near Woodfield Mall, that megamall in Schaumburg. If I get over there in the next month or so, I'll let you know -- in case you want some of the towels. (It's about 20 minutes from me.) I'm tempted to drive over to save money on the towels -- but the cost of gas will prohibit that until I have another reason to go out there! Otherwise the cost of the towels will go uuupppp.
