I've got a few herbs with teeny tiny sprouts just peeking out of the soil in my indoor starter pots and some romanesco broccoli coming up so far inside as well. The tomatoes and peppers are being really slow, I think that I'm not keeping them warm enough. If it would just stopping being so awful outside I'd go get some early spring crops going! But bleh!
I cannot WAIT for warm spring weather.

I ordered a warming mat to put under my seedlings and it just arrived today so guess what I'll be doing tonight? I planted some lettuce and spinach in my firepit turned planter on Saturday.the weather here has been crazy--it was in the 60's on saturday and hovered around freezing sunday. today started off cold but it's warmed into the 40's--still cold for this time of year. I've started chives, basil and cilantro indoors. If sun is out, I set them on the balcony in the daytime. Basil is peeking thru!! Can't tell you how excited I was :)

Going to start some tomato, bell pepper, and more herbs indoor next week. Can't wait for spring/summer!
Good luck to all of us!
Blessings, Linda

Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, zinnias, and absolutely microscopic salpiglossis, also known as velvet flower all are up! I've got ten herb varieties and peppers plan ted but not up,and a heated tray is ready for tomatoes. There's still snow in sheltered areas so I guess we don't have to be in too big a rush. Susan

You know, after last year's fiasco with growing my own seedlings, I tried direct-sowing them in the garden and had amazing - AMAZING - results! So, this year, with all the craziness going on here, I decided to wait and do the same. Sadly, they claim it's spring, but winter continues to rear its ugly head against my garden soil. 'Woke up to two more inches this morning. For Heaven's sake! I hope it lets up soon so I can get out there and get some goodness growing! At this rate, we'll be in perpetual snow 'til September, and I'll never get to plant anything! I'm sure I'll be out there sowing before I know it... Better late than never, right?! :)
Happy growing, girls!
Hugs -

I know what you mean Nini, I had more snow on Tuesday, I keep looking for any sprouts from my flower bulbs, and found half an inch from a daffodil( I think) I am thinking I should just keep my winter gear out for the rest of the year because it will be needed by Labor Day anyways. I have always planted from plants, This year we are trying from seeds, but at the rate its going I am not sure they will get in the ground. Maybe container planting for some of them?

I started both indoors and direct sowing outside. There is something so exciting about seeing the seeds poking out of the ground!! I have my cold weather crops hardening off… but they look so puny!! I was at one of the big box stores last weekend and I passed their brussels sprouts and they look glorious!!! My husband helped me walk away from them and put faith in the seeds I planted!! Even if my seeds won't amount to much, it is just a small investment. I have about a million seeds left in my $1.79 packet, so I will keep trying! But the seeds I am most committed to are my heirloom tomatoes. I really hope they do well!!! Just need some sun and warmer temps!! (but not too warm, I don't want to go from winter directly to summer!!) Good luck to all of your seedlings everyone!!!

I have a room that has three angled windows and a southern exposure. I always start my seeds in there. Annika, I am with you on that. I have a few sprouts popping up, but it is still like winter here, too. Oh my! We got snow and sleet this morning. Still can't believe it. Need spring, for sure!
