Anyone know of a good commercial brand that's not tied with Monsanto? I live in an apt and do some container herbs/Vegs on my balcony. I'm using organic seed and want a good soil mix that preferably isn't made by Monsanto and it's companies?
Any thoughts sure appreciated!

I've been on the lookout for seed starter mix recipes, and what I am finding is 1 part vermiculite, 1 part perlite, and 2 to 4 parts spaghum moss or coir. I've also seen some recipes that include compost. I have no idea which brands are or are not tied to Monsanto- the vermiculite and perlite are sold at home stores like Home Depot and Lowes, but who owns these companies?
The compost needs to be "cooked" so it doesn't have weed seed in it. Since I don't have livestock, it takes a while to cold-compost, so I'm cautious.

It never occurred to me that my organic mix could be tied to Monsanto. YIKES! Would it say it on the package? I did read the same thing Brenda about vermiculite, perlite mixture. It's too late this year, but I'm writing it down in my garden journal for next year!
