Mail Art is defined simply as sending small scale art works through the postal service. It took root as an artistic movement in the 1960’s and it is still enjoying a quiet fame today. We hope Mail Art will foster personal communication and creative expression between members of our Farmgirl Sisterhood.
Once a month, make a fellow sister feel special by sending her a little something in the mail. Draw it, paint it, stitch it, glue it, hammer it, however you choose to express yourself, share it. If you aren’t feeling inspired to make something, consider sending an old photograph or some other cool piece of vintage ephemera. The possibilities are literally endless, but keep in mind that two-dimensional items are less expensive and less bulky to mail.
Pay It Forward Program: Are you one of our farmgirls who itches to create and loves to help out? Craft us up some extra mail art to stockpile for that rainy day when one of our sisters needs a little help making her deadline. She will add back to the stockpile when she can, knowing her trading sister wasn’t left without sunshine in her mailbox for the month
If you would like to join us, here are our guidelines:
TO SIGN UP, please post a comment under the current month’s mail art thread in the forum stating that you would like to participate.
SIGN UPS for each month's mail art are available from the 1st to the 15th. I will send out an email on the 16th of each month to let you know the name and address of the person to whom you’ll send your mail art. Please respond to let me know you’re rip-raring to go, and then get something beautiful in the mail prior to the last day of the month.
The MAIL OUT DEADLINE to your partner is the last day of the month.
Please post pictures and thank you notes under the current month’s topic in the forum.
If you find you cannot make a deadline, please let me know immediately so that I can make other arrangements for the farmgirl who would have received your mail art. You can add to the Pay It Forward Program if you’d like to make-up any swaps you’ve missed.
It will be so exciting to get to know each other through our art! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send me a message.
Happy Swapping, Kristine

Looking foreward to it, Kristine.
Are you going to suggest themes or just let us go and create?
Thank you, Mary Jane

Heather, I did get your e-mail. Thank you :)
Do you guys like having themes? I hadn't thought about it, but it sounds fun to me. Suggestions?

Hi Kristine, Nice to see that Mail Art is still alive and well. I was the coordinator for a little over two years and enjoyed doing it. It kept me busy with assigning partners and being creative with ideas for exchanges. Then the time came for me to pass it on to someone else. I can't participate right now, but perhaps again sometime in the future. Hope you girls have fun! CJ

It's been awhile since I've been to the forums. But always loved mail art and couldn't resist the chance to get back in and involved here again. So, please sign me up! Thanks.

Ceejay, I hope you find time soon to participate in Mail Art again! On one of my very first days at MaryJanesFarm, your name came up as one of the farmgirls I "had to meet" :) I hope that comes true someday soon.
Staci, I sent you an email :)
You guys sure kept me busy getting emails out this morning! We've got a great group for March :)

Kristine: I wasn't sure since I didn't see it anywhere. Do we keep the same swap partner each month or do they rotate and then you send out an email? Diana Gibson

Hey Farmgirls... WHERE IS THE SURPRISE when you tell Your Mail Art Person who you are and that her mail Art went out?????
Mail Art is Not the same as MOST SWAPS.
Whom ever gets my Name PLEASE NEVER TELL ME WHO YOU ARE AS I LOVE THE ELEMENT OF SURPRISE. I want to go to my Mail Box and be JOYOUS to find a surprise in amongst the bills and ads. And then when I open it...that is when I love to appreciate the Farmgirl that went to all the work to bless me. And I will always post a picture of YOUR creation and a personal comment to you!!!
Hugs and Smiles, Peggy

Kristine, I just read through the newest version of the guidelines. Waiting to get my partner's name until the 16th is fine. I do like getting a suggestion for a theme when you first post sign ups for the month. Do we need to sign up each month under the new guidelines, or are we once in always in?
Blessings,
