I heard a gentleman using this Minnesota winter conversation starter today and it triggered a memory of something I had heard quite a while ago. I traced it down and hope it may bring a smile to some of you. Susan
Cold Is A Relative Thing
65° Arizonans turn on the heat. People in Minnesota plant gardens.
60° Californians shiver uncontrollably. People in Minnesota sunbathe.
50° Italian & English cars won't start. People in Minnesota drive with the windows down..
40° Georgians don coats, thermal underwear, gloves, wool hats. People in Minnesota throw on a flannel shirt.
35° New York landlords finally turn up the heat. People in Minnesota have the last cookout before cold weather sets in.
20° People in Miami all die. Minnesotans close the windows.
0° Californians fly away to Mexico. People in Minnesota get out their winter coats.
10° below zero: Hollywood disintegrates. The Girl Scouts in Minnesota are selling cookies door to door.
20° below zero: Washington DC runs out of hot air. People in Minnesota let the dogs sleep indoors.
30° below zero: Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Minnesotans get upset because they can't start the snowmobile.
-40° ALL atomic motion stops. People in Minnesota start saying..."Cold enough for ya?"
-50° Hell freezes over. Minnesota public schools will open two hours late.

A Minnesota Poem
It's winter in Minnesota, And the gentle breezes blow, Seventy miles and hour, And thirty-five below.
Oh, how I love Minnesota, When the snow's up to your butt. You take a breath of winter air, And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful. So I guess that I'll hang around. I could never leave Minnesota, "Cause I'm frozen to the ground.

I love the poem and the sayings. Unfortunately that goes for IL this year too. We are currently at -2 with a windchill of -18. They canceled school due to worry over getting the school buses running. We've had 3 cold days for school that will have to be made up in June.
Stay warm, pray for an early spring! Dawn in IL |

It's the same for Ohio this year too! Today makes 2 make up days for the kids and I bet tomorrow will be the third. What can we do but laugh about it though. Thanks so much for sharing Susan! It made my day :)

I've just returned from Sumny Central California, 70 to 80 degrees daily and down in the 40's at night with the heat running. I'm back in Washington state and the nights are in the 20's and days in the 30's. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the inversion we have. No sun since I've been home. It is supposed to return tomorrow, but we'll see.
I enjoyed the Minnesota prose. You are suffering much more than I am.

I can relate to that Minnesota poem! lol We beat you on the BBQ, just had one this Sat! lol Of course, we may cook it outdoor but we eat inside cause the food gets cold to quickly! lol It's been extremely cold up here, way north east! I don't mind the cold, it's the wind!
Enjoy your snow MrsTracy! Despite the cold weather, we are still getting snow falls. I remember as a youth my mum saying "when it's cold, it won't snow". Not sure about that anymore! ;)
Keep warm everyone! Cheers!

We had a high of -8 today. Tonight it will get down to -20 and lower with the wind chill. It is good walking weather. Tomorrow the high will be +1 so I can get out in the yard and do some work. On Wednesday the high will be +24 so I guess I will have to wear a t-shirt. I hope I can survive the heat wave.

It wasn't too bad over the weekend, then the temps. dropped and tonight's supposed to be below zero. At least the wind has died down somewhat. And no snow--kids actually had school today (they've used about a gazillion snow-days). Cindy

As a native Californian, yes, 60 is cold for me. I've been shivering nonstop here in WA! I don't know if I could survive in anything colder!

Love the poems! -34 here this morning in northwest WI. A bit cold. :) Makes being above zero a heat wave. Couple feet of snow out there at least too. Time to head out and finish chores. Got to feed hay tonight, so will plug the tractor in for a few hours.
