Even though I work full-time, I don't necessarily like my job. Even though I long for a farm of my own and love to cook and can and be a farmgirl, I really needed to feel like I had accomplished something and that I had worth. After looking at jobs that I want to have, I realized that I would need a BA in English. So here I am, enrolled in college again. Lucky for me, I found an online school that has the exact degree I want. I work from home (at a computer), so it seemed perfect to be able to go to school from home (and it works out well because I have kids here, too).

Today is the first day of Spring term (yes, it's only the Winter season, but there is no Winter term at the school) and I am nervous and anxious and excited - all at the same time. I did very well last term (Fall) and aced my class. I'm only taking one class at a time so as not to stress out. It's stressful enough with one class!

So I guess I may add to this thread as I go along and share my experiences - the good, the bad, and the ugly! LOL

That sounds exciting! Be sure to let us know how it's going. I've been curious about online classes.

Online classes are a great alternative to traditional attendance. Because of family responsibilities and geographic distance to the university of choice, I finished my BA and then obtained my MA over the course of 6 years, taking two classes a semester. After graduating in 2012 I found that college teaching jobs in my discipline (Health Education) were very hard to come by. I returned to online classes, and will get an post-graduate teaching certificate ion Sociology in May. This certification will enable me to teach in both disciplines. Online classes require dedication and a strong sense of determination (hard for a procrastinator like me). The only thing I would caution you off is top make certain that your school is fully accredited. Best of luck to you. I would also choose an online program associated with a traditional college or university instead of a solely online school. It gives you extra props on a resume in lieu (my opinion), plus they are usually less expensive.

Great news, Connie, congrats on your BA and MA! That is a major accomplishment!

I am attending a well-known and nationally recognized and accredited school. If I lived near it, I would most likely attend classes at the physical buildings, but it's wayyyy too far away for that, several states away. I did look at several schools before deciding on the one I'm attending. There are websites that rate online colleges and I used those to help decide, and also one of my nieces attends the school at the main campus (where I'm registered for the online courses). I highly recommend Arizona State University which is where I attend. They are ranked #9 in online degree programs which is very good, in my opinion.

Procrastination & online classes do not mix, you've got that right, Connie. Last semester, my professor said, "Work ahead. Do not fall behind." He told the entire class that and it has stuck with me and will stay with me throughout my time at ASU. Even though there are due dates for assignments, quizzes and the like, it is possible to work ahead.

Krissy,
Congratulations on a great plan and a great start. There are a lot of "if only" people around, you know the ones, "If only I had gone to college right out of high school", "If only I lived somewhere else" and on and on.
You are taking the steps to do what you want to do and feel good about yourself. It's a great lesson for your kids as well. Your life sure has to be a busy one right now, but well worth it! With that determination your dreams get closer and closer!
