I'm sure we all have stories of interesting Christmases over the years. This was one of those years for us.
I was playing for Christmas services this year so I had a 2 hour rehearsal on Sunday, 2 hour rehearsal on the 23rd, a 7:00 service on the 23rd and 2:30, 4:00 and 5:30 services on the 24th. So, I was tired by the last service. During Silent Night, my husband noticed that my 10 year old was tipping his candle a bit. He asked the little guy what was wrong and J just stared at him. Then, his eyes rolled back and my husband caught him before he completely fell. Fortunately, I didn't see it happen because I probably would have left my keyboard!
I came out on my break to our youth pastor coming up to tell me, "J is ok, but he did faint. He's downstairs right now." A couple of hours later, he developed a fever of 102.
So, Christmas Day...my mil is all alone so dh took our older two boys to her house for breakfast while I stayed home then when they came home, I took the boys up to my parents and dh stayed home with J. Since this is most likely my mom's last Christmas with us, we didn't want to cancel going up to her house. Since then, poor little J has had 3 nose bleeds, but his temp is down to normal. Such fun! (not really)
Anyone else have an out of the ordinary Christmas this year?
One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

Our holiday season was as usual. A traditional Thanksgiving at my sister in law's home and a Mexican Stackup dinner at my son's home. A Christmas party at our dear friends's home. A traditional Christmas dinner at our home for my husband's family. A Pizza and Salad Christmas party at my sister's home for our side of the family. A New Year's Day steak dinner at a friend's home. Christmas holiday memories always remind me of my acting debut. I was 7 years old. The local Baptist Church ( we went to the Church of Christ) was having a play about the birth of Jesus. I was privileged to be an angel in the manager. Mom let me have one of our white sheets and bought me a candle. The Church was packed. The weather was unseasonably warm. All the doors of the Church were open. About fifteen minutes into the manager scene, I spoke to Mary that I was about to faint. She left Jesus and caught me as I fell forward. I got too hot. So I really believe Jesus was born in the Springtime as many scholars believe. I remember this story every year at Christmas.

So sorry your son got sick, but glad he is getting better. Winter nose bleeds are common fair here . . . especially with kids. I think my middle son had a nose bleed almost daily in the winter from the ages of 9 to 12. Frustrating, but nothing to be worried about. This year was a wonderful Christmas . . . last year was our tough one . . . hubby was working and I was dog sick. My poor kids had to fend for themselves. It was awful . . . but I had to remind myself of the true meaning of Christmas and life went on! :)

This Christmas was different for us too. Our 17 year old son spent dinner with his girlfriend's family and only pop over for about 20 - 30 minutes to have dessert with his parents and his Grandparents. Then it was back to the girlfriend house to play fun games. I/we can not complete with that...my parent are in their 80's, and after dinner we play scrabble.

(((hugs))) So sorry to hear that your son has been ill! Praying he feels better really soon!!! We had one Christmas - about 6 or 7 years ago, where we (my hubby, dd, ds, and I) were all sick -= we didn't open gifts that day, make a turkey, or any food at all, but rather slept all. day. Our neighbors at the time said they knew something was wrong because we usually brought them over a plate of goodies after we opened some gifts and got decent. We celebrated Christmas on New Years, when we were all well.
This year was a little off as well - my health issues with my adrenal glands have caused me to have little energy on most days, so I wasn't up to making nearly the amount of food for dinner, or goofing around too much with the kids. Instead, we had a really laid back day, with exception of when hubby's family wanted to Skype. I don't do well with stress right now (your adrenals are in charge of your flight and fight mechanism), so I had an emotional break down after they got off the computer. I love my hubby's family - they are wonderful people - but they look at Christmas as a time to really spoil our children.... my hubby and I give our children a total of 6 gifts.... something they need, want wear, read, hobby, and homemade.... part of the reason for that is we don't think they need a bunch of "stuff" and part of it is we cannot afford a ton of things. my MIL sent 6 gifts for each of them as well... but to give an example, my DD10 got another American Girl. His one sister also sent the kids down gifts. And I'm never really treated as part of the family :(

I woke up at 1 a.m. on Christmas Eve with a terrible stomach flu that my son ad the week before. It was awful ad mercifully lasted about 10 hours. I was so weak and shaky that day and evening that I couldn't get off the couch. Instead of the beautiful Christmas eve I was going to make for us, I ate a bowl of applesauce & my husband & youngest son ate scrambled eggs. Christmas day I felt better, shaky, but normal. We did have a delicious breakfast and lunch & enjoyed the day with my older two sons. So, it was different, but we all had a good time that day.
Here's to a happy 2014 and a healthier Christmas next year for all!
