What would you recommend for a first time user. What do you love/ hate about them? I have had some input for the Circut and Silhoutte. Been looking them up and there are so many how do you know the best one to get?

I love my Sizzix Bigshot machine. It's versatile for alot of different types of dies and textures (textures plates, texture folders, sizzlits, on the edge, movers & shapers, bigz, strips, borders, etc). It seems like several of the popular graphic artists like Tim Holtz have their own lines of Sizzix dies, too. The Bigshot does require some fairly expensive pads for the various types but they are durable and make lots of cuts before they have to be replaced. I've used mine for cutting paper, cardstock, fabric, lightweight metal, cork and thin plastic sheets. I'm more into papercrafting and card making than scrapbooking but it works very well for my needs. Hope this helps!

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Thanks Marilyn! I am looking at the Cuttlebug because I don't see me using it for very many things.
That one seems to do the basics which is what I am thinking I need. Not sure yet. Someone else suggested the Sizzix Bigshot too. Still open to more suggestions.

HI.. I have the Cuttlebug!! the Sizzix Big Shot ! Cricut Expression ! (daughter has my baby Cricut)
and the Revolution (old machine that works great with the very thin dies).
The Cuttle Bug is great for cutting most dies out there using paper.
The BigShot will do the same thing.. but it will also cut fabric with steam-a-seam(etc) for quilt/t-shirt ironon. Will cut thin poster board, thin metal, and dozens of other types of materials.. Read what it can cut by doing a google search.
Cricut is an electronic machine that uses cartridges to access a great variety of shapes to cut paper. Can cut vinyl for wall art too. Can make a variety of different sizes based on your machine and your mats.
---
Feeding these things cost money. Dies are expensive for the Cuttle Bug and Sizzix.. but there are coupons for JoAnns and Hobby Lobby / And they do run sales. Sizzix.com runs clearance and specials all the time.
The Close To My Heart Cartridges for the Cricut are outstanding especially the Art and the Artiste Cartridges. Can make shapes and boxes and all sorts of cut outs with probably hundreds and things to cut. Remeber you might pay $39 - 69 or more for a Cartridge, but some cut hundreds of shapes. Some great alphabet cartridges too. And lots of sales on line sites.
And yes.. I have them too.
------------
The most versatile machine for the money (light weight, versatile, and can cut most dies) is the Cuttlebug. JUST BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR SAnDWICH OF PLATES STRAIGHT !!!! AND DON'T FORCE IT ! These things are plastic, after all.
------- Any questions, you are welcome to email me.

I love my big shot. I would probably own all of them if they were not so expensive. A group of 6 gals get together and we bring our different folders and dies. We share and let everyone cut out or emboss anything they want. That way we have the opportunity of many more than any of us own. We also share paper punches this way. Love the dove punch from Martha Steward. This stuff is addictive and gets me into trouble. But, it is about my only active hobby right now, so going to enjoy it.

I have a cricut,,, I use it and buy my 'cutters' thingies on sale @ Joann & Micheals when they are 40% off.
I use my occasionally so it works out for me... and I have found that I can use (buy) shelving contact adhesive tolls for cutting out designs.. I just adjust the dial to a lighter cutting number. I can buy a roll of contact shelf line then the $9 itty bitty roll of the adhesive rolls at the craft store!

Which is the best for fabric cutting? It sounds from reading above is the Sizzix. I had wondered about the Cricut, but no one seems to talk about cutting fabric with it, so I assume that means it isn't much good for it. I want to mostly cut fonts and text, not shapes so much, which is why the AccuQuilt wasn't my first choice. It focuses more on die-cut shapes. Any suggestions?
