I think we could say Mary Jane farmgirls are multi-talented. Beginning with Mary Jane. Thanks to her we have a place to share.

It's really hard to pick a top three, but I would say farming (animals and vegetables), fiber arts, and reading, followed by cooking, bread making, and learning new skills.

I would say my favorite hobbies are quilting, knitting, and embroidery. I would like to get back to some card making as well.

My favorite hobby currently is taking beautiful thrift store clothing and making scarves. I don't look at size or if it has a stain or hole. I look at if it is enough fabric to make a scarf. I have made many scarves and love how they turn out. I purchased a tiered skirt(for a quarter, true story quarter day are still alive and well in our little town) that was different black and white patterns. The tiers were already finished, so I took a seam ripper and carefully tore apart the tiers. I now have 5 different patterns of black and white to make 5 different scarves. A bit overkill, but have friends that wear black also, so I will share my creations. Think it would be fun to have contests on Mary Jane's Farm chat and post pictures of our creations. Every month it could be a different challenge. I know I am not the only one that gets off on the creative process on this site. |

I would have to say sewing. Of any kind, but mainly I love sewing and gifting my home made things! I also love to make and send cards.

Farm Girls are truly talented women! I feel so blessed to have gifts bestowed on me and a desire to learn. So, many have gifts but not with making things and I feel so sad for them. It is a true therapy to make things with your hands and give to others. I wonder how do people make it through their entire life with just going to work, coming home making dinner or eating out, going on vacation and that is enough for them. I'd go nuts if I could not make something once a week! lol
Just had to get that off my mind! giggle!

I seem to be a Jack of several trades but not a master of any. LOL!! I love to do handwork like knitting, cross stitching, embroidery and some sewing. However, I don't seem to have the talents for making complicated things. I always loved school and even today I love reading and studying about science ( I am really into weather), american history, WWI and WWII history, health science, and rural culture of our great nation. Since becoming a Farmgirl, I have started canning, making more homemade from scratch meals, a little gardening, grinding my own wheat for bread, and eating more organically. Honestly, I think it was starting to wear aprons when I joined MJF that inspired me to retrace the steps of my past with my mother and grandmother doing all of those domestic pursuits that everyone did from the turn of the century onward in time. It has been that reach back in my family history and trying to experience what doing those daily cooking pursuits was like that has inspired me and interested me the most of all my hobbies. Now I want a treadle machine and a wood burning stove to cook on!! LOL!!

I love reading all the topics here. I guess my favorite (at the moment) is machine embroidery. I love sewing, hanging with the grandkids, making things for the grandkids, and gardening. Right now I am getting ready to start fall canning and cleaning up the garden (not a favorite pass time). I also love to crochet and read. I am thinking about starting or finding a local book club to join. Any suggestions on what to include in that would be appreciated.

Krista I am venturing into wood crafts myself. I would like to see some of your wood block creations.
Teresa, when I was in school we made a small loom and I loved making my mini rug on it. I would love to have my DH make me one again and see what kind of things I can create with it. Probably, pot holders to begin with and work my way up to a rug.
Winnie, I love history too. I drew my own family tree and made it into an iron on. Can't find where I put it at the moment but when I do I'll share it with you all. My DH loves science and the universe. I want to move to the country so we can look up at night and actually see the stars sparkling and meditate on all the wonders God has made for us to enjoy.
My gardening for edibles has gone to seed again. hehe! The only plant that the bugs did not eat were the black eye pea plants. My flowers and trees are thriving. If only I could grow my vegetables as well as I do the non-edible kind I'd be a happy camper farm girl.

I grew up doing all things the old way. My grandma cooked on a wood stove and we went out to the outhouse. I enjoyed handwork, embroidery, baking, gardening and canning. Now I am glad my toilet is inside and I have hot and cold running water.when we get older we appreciate conveniences. But this farmgirl likes to slow down and enjoy what she does. I love reading and making quilts.

I have way too many hobbies and not enough free time! I really love to cross stitch and it's what I do most of the time but I also enjoy reading, gardening, jewelry making, crafting, and horseback riding. I work full time and with my commute I put in 50+ hour work weeks so my free time is very limited. I am hoping to get my finances in order soon so I can cut back on that nasty business of the corporate shuffle and concentrate on the farm and family a bit more.

Hi, my favorites would be cooking, gardening, and sewing, but I do an abundance of other crafts. It is really hard to choose a favorite! |

Jennifer that is a wonderful goal to simplify your life and do more close to home. Keep focused on your goal and you'll reach it in no time.
Teresa - It is so nice to read all of your hobbies.
Bonnie - Slowing down to enjoy life is for sure tops on my list these days too.
Janet - Seems like most farm girls know how to do a lot of different things to keep them busy and out of trouble. My husband used to bike in the mountains of Colombia, South America. He won many trophies and has the sexy legs to show for it. lol

I love photography, reading, writing, crochet, hoping to get into mixed media...really, just love doing creative things or outside or with the animals. The neat thing is how all of these choices help me handle my relatively new development of epilepsy. These various pursuits seem to calm the brain some. :)
