hopefully the picture will show up for you.

let me give you a bit of background...Steve aka Mr. Grumpy as I called him after I 1st met him rents the main house on the farm & has milk cows. A area farmer raises beef cattle & Sherlock was not doing well, 1st a ear tag infection that took most of his ear so that farmer ask Mr. Grumpy to take him & they would pay for his keep.

Well Sherlock was so shy he would wait til the other calves would nurse on foster cows so he wasn't getting enough & was starving. I just happen to be in the barn next to the trailer & saw him fall over & ask if I could take him over to the trailer & care for him.

For the 1st 3 days he would not stand up so I had to go out & pick him up every few hours so he would stand...he had bloody manure because his tummies were a mess. Each time I tried to bottle feed him he would choke & give up. He was so close to dying I decided to try milk in a bucket. He would take some but not enough at one time so I went out every hour or so & gave him more all thur the day. I realized he needed calaries so I put together raw oatmeal I had brought with me & mixed it with molasses, he got a cup or so of that twice a day for 3 days then I added a cup of dry powdered milk to that each time.

By now he was drinking maybe a total of a gallon of milk aday plus the oats, so decided to up the oats with 7 grain mix & slowly worked that up to 2 cups each time. By now the blood was gone from the manure 7 he was standing up all day plus now interested in grass. I brought a childs plastic outdoor play house with me & he liked to go in there when it was too hot outside in the sun & sleep in there.

Every 5 days or so I would move him & the playhouse to a different area of the yard so he'd have fresh grass to nibble on & get away from his waste. I had him from Aug 15th to Oct 2nd & by that time he was heavy enough it took two of us to pick him up. He will always be small for his age but he is now with Emily who used to own the farm.

The old owners no longer wanted him cause he was not pure grass/pasture & small so they gave him to Mr. Grumpy who did not want to have to grain fed him all winter so I got Emily to take him. so my little boy who I so worried about & had no idea how to care for did alright. I decided since I had raised sheep, horses ect growing up I would treat him as I did them & it worked. Its something I had never done before & way I was able to save this little boy.

Oh he also decided to wein himself & if I brought out milk he would smell it then nose it over when I turned my back so I quit with the fresh milk but kept the powdered milk in his oat mix. I was thrilled but sad when he left to go to Emily's but I knew he would have 3 acre's to play on with a horse & 3 other calves & she would take good care of him.

Love this story and it did my heart good today!
Oh your picture didn't show up. It has a little cracked picture on the icon so anyone who sees that won't see your picture.
