Here lately I have gotten into crafting on a larger scale. We have a garage full of power tools DH just had to have. It has amazed me how rarely he uses all of these expensive toys. So I had him give me a tutorial on some of the tools and have been having a great time making things from reclaimed wood. Here are a few of my projects I thought I would share:

I refinished our dining table and chairs and built these benches:

This is a shelf in the bathroom I built to hold towels and bath supplies:

A small shelf to hold part of my vintage bottle collection:

Trays and boxes:

I would love to see anyone else's reclaimed wood projects!

You did a terrific job. I am busy back to schooling my girls, so I can not do many big projects.

Great job Sarah! I love the benches!! My reclaimed wood is put away with the Christmas decorations right now. I painted some sayings on old barn siding one year. Another year I took old wooden fence posts and turned them into snowmen. I'll try to remember to post some pictures when I get them out.

These projects are really great. We have a group in Minneapolis called Crafty Geek. They have a class on carving pumpkins with power tools.

Thanks everyone! I have been having a lot of fun with these projects and have ideas for so many more!

CeeJay, did you recognize the hardware on the shelf? Thanks again!

Heather, I would love to see some of your reclaimed projects when you get them out. :)

Sharon, I have thought of doing birdhouses, but am not sure how I will do with the required angular cuts. lol... I may look up some birdhouse blueprints and see what I can figure out. I would love to see what you wind up coming up with.

These items look awesome. I love recycled wood. I watch for people to throw out old waterbed frames. They have big heavy 2x10,'s or 2x12's. I have been building my raised bed from them. I just ran an ad on craigslist to look for old free privacy fencing. I have an old metal shed that someone gave me. It is in good condition but not pleasing to the eye. I have started covering it with planks from privacy fence.I can hardly wait until I get it done!

Thank you all! I have so enjoyed working with reclaimed wood! I got a jigsaw for my birthday so I am starting to play around with cutting out shapes in my pieces... currently my shapes are kind of sad looking, but they will get better with time I am sure. :)

Patty, try calling fencing companies in your area. I have had luck, and have even been offered WAY more fencing than I want, by calling the fencing companies around my area. When they tear down an old fence, generally they have to dispose of it and in my experience they are more than willing to allow me to come pick some up, or have even offered to load it up and bring it to my house for me if their job isn't too far away. I bet you could get enough to cover your shed in no time. I can't wait to see pics of it.

A few more fun projects that I came up with using reclaimed wood:

I tore apart and redid the old dog house that was in our yard when we bought the house. Everything I used to do this was reclaimed in one way or another. (Can't wait until we rebuild the old fence in the background... I will have a lot of reclaimed wood to play with then!)

I made some really fun gift boxes after being inspired by some similar that I saw at our local import cheese store:

Craft Room storage solution:

We needed a place to store our table top games, so I got some reclaimed wood from a local "free wood" pile:

And built this chest:

I love the chest. We have a free wood place too. They make moldings and have lots of pretty strips of wood. Only problem ya gotta get there first. I need a chest for a camp chest. Bob could do it. He makes so much stuff from old wood. MB

Sarah,

Holy Moly! Those are some really awesome pieces! Works of art! I love all the pics. Have you thought of doing that as a business? I bet you could make some good money doing that. There is a gentleman in my area making outdoor furniture from free pallets. They are beautiful, but he is making big bucks on his finished projects. You really have a talent. Way to go.

Nicole

Wow! Thank you for all of your kind words! I am so excited that you all like what I have done. :) I have lots of fun doing it. :)

Nicole,
I haven't sold anything I've made from wood yet, mostly I am just making stuff for our home and gifts, but maybe someday I can try selling something. :)

All the projects here are so completely wonderful and inspiring. I have started eyeballing some of my storage problems and the used wood pile. I think there will be a few more projects in my future too.

Thanks to all you ladies for being so inspiring!!!!

All of these projects are so inspiring! I need to get out in the garage and use the wonderful array of tools that we have purchased over the last few years. My husband has every tool in the world out there!
